Welcome to #First100Days!
The #First100Days series will “bear witness” to the next 13 weeks of the Trump administration and the climate in America and then respond openly in writing, dialogue, and debate in the hopes of fostering better communication among writers and partisans alike (although the essays and pieces do not have to be political in nature). We’re looking to help give voice to honest and thematic essays from all layers of the political spectrum and across all GMP sections.
All opinions are those of the author and not necessarily of Good Men Media, The Good Men Project, or our editors.

“Trump that Bitch.”
Coastal elites.
In the months since the election we’ve read and researched all of the polling data, articles, and profiles of the election and talked with scores of conservative voters regarding why they wanted Trump.
But liberals and moderates have been hard pressed to get the same in return.
Why is that?
Where is the “Understanding the Hillary Voter” or “How can Liberals think that way” expose and articles?
Instead it’s been the opposite—liberals reaching out to understand the electoral college and why Americans—working class whites as well as college educated white men and women—chose what liberals—including many of the same in the demographic—feel is the worst President ever.
So what’s going on?
Is this the case of the “nerds” wondering why the bully is the bully (and the bully not caring) or a case of the bully getting beat and the nerds not caring to understand why the bully feels shame and embarrassment?
Or is it something completely different, like the brains, lifestyle, and hard-held beliefs of voters?

By asking this question, it seems you’re still trying to figure out how Trump supporters think.
My Trump loving nephew said to me “Did you ever think that Hillary wasn’t ready to be president?” “She just wasn’t virtuous enough.” Interesting choice of words don’t you think? This coming from a young man who witnessed incredible domestic violence and abuse to he & his siblings. Isn’t it most interesting how high the standards for the woman than the man. And how so many have missed the fact that trump is a true narcissist. And much more noticed that right away.
Perhaps he saw the women in his life as having a higher standard which he didn’t see in Hillary? A womanizing man or an enabling wife? He saw Trump as a lesser of the evils?
I’m a prog, and I’ll agree that Trump is a narcissist.
I will also assert that Bubba Clinton is a rapist (Juanita Brodderick), and has assaulted multiple women non-consensually, and has perjured himself in testimony causing him to be disbarred for life from the Arkansas Bar association.
If you voted for Bubba anyway, or complained about his impeachment, or still support him and his enabling wife at all, you are being a hypocrite.
This is just a faux discussion. Fifty thousand voters flip their vote and we are not even pretending to do this. Liberals are just doubling down on their formula. Trump will make them wait a little longer for the nation’s changing demographics to kick in and tip the political scale back in their favor. They know they will get much of the Hispanic vote and they assume they will get the vast majority of it. But there’s that word again…assume.
What’s to figure out? Liberals aren’t shy about sharing their views. 100,00 dollars worth of damages to Berkeley is testimony to that fact.
You must have missed the Bob Reich memo. Those were faux liberals paid by right wingers to bring violence and destruction to a peaceful event. Those are some genius fascists right there. Or are they Nazi idiots. Depends on the day I guess.
“Why Don’t Men Care Enough to ‘Figure Out’ the Liberals?” There’s the problem…right there. It’s like asking a man, “Have you stopped beating your wife?”. It’s like Lena Dunham saying that no one should criticize Hillary because she was the perfect candidate. Or blaming Russia, or the FBI, for Hillary’s loss. Or pointing to the absurdity of Trump to avoid confronting the absurdity of Hillary. I’m a lefty (left of liberals) and I despise what has gone on in my own political end of the spectrum. I despise the celebrity culture, the feminist overreach, the denigration of men (particularly white,… Read more »
Question: In the months since the election we’ve read and researched all of the polling data, articles, and profiles of the election and talked with scores of conservative voters regarding why they wanted Trump. How much of this were you doing before the election? How much of that research and reaching out did you do before the election when outreach could have made a difference? Something I’ve noticed that liberals just largely did the following: 1. Straight attacked conservatives for the 9 months or so before the election, 2. Humble brag that women were the future and that women were… Read more »
“Why Don’t Men Care Enough to ‘Figure Out’ the Liberals?” I mean, this just sums up the problem right here. I am a liberal man, for one thing, so why is my gender being generalised here into a stance I don’t hold? Plenty of white women voted for Trump and don’t care for liberals. Hell, plenty of minorities voted for Trump and don’t care for liberals. I personally *have* been trying to get people on my own side – liberals – to listen for once and stop playing the same dud hands they’ve been playing for the last several years… Read more »
Doowangle, Tom, and Ian, please see the language change:
Instead it’s been the opposite—liberals reaching out to understand the electoral college and why Americans—working class whites as well as college educated white men and women—chose what liberals—including many of the same in the demographic—feel is the worst President ever.
No one needs to ask what liberals think. You spend 24/7 shoving what you think down the throats of anyone a stone’s throw away from you. You have complete control of the media. What to know what a liberal thinks? Turn on SNL, Samantha Bee, John Oliver, Jon Stewart, Trevor Noah, Bill Maher, Larry Wilmore, Seth Meyers, Chelsea Handler, Stephen Colbert, CNN, MSNBC, New York Times, ABC, The Oscars, The Emmys, Huffington Post, Slate, Jezebel, The LA Times, Chicago Tribune, the list goes on and on and on and on. We can’t get away from what you think. It’s never-ending… Read more »
I’m not the least bit surprised Donald Trump won the election. He stoked a silent and seething anger in his voter base equal to that of the left’s hatred of him; however, there was just enough people who fell for that anger and his false looming presence to vote him in. His campaign used the liberal propaganda machine you speak of by keeping the camera focused solely on him; it’s the only thing he knows how to do. Now that the camera is on him 24-7 as President, he expects deference. That’s not what you sign up for when you… Read more »
“But liberals and moderates have been hard pressed to get the same in return.” Maybe because they have been lambasting since before Trump got in. Maybe because the main stream media has been liberal and the liberals have made it perfectly clear that they aren’t interested in what we have to say? I have seen no one (including GMP) reaching out to understand the conservative group.
Does Trump–aside from being a conservative–NOT deserve lambasting, as is the American tradition? Why wouldn’t we lambaste any candidate? And Hillary has been roasted for over 30 years, by liberals as well. Do you agree?
Got in? Hell they have been lambasting him for last year or so and just turned up the heat even more when he actually won.
p.s. And for the record, the liberal drivel looking at metrics such as “low educated white men” is why we absolutely despise you. You look down your nose at middle America as if they are your bank account sugar daddy that needs to shut up as you completely upend morality and the civil society. Fuck you.
“middle America as if they are your bank account sugar daddy that needs to shut up as you completely upend morality and the civil society. Fuck you.”
I don’t understand that at all. Who is the sugar daddy? The corn farmers? The midwesterners? Cities make up 85% of the country’s GDP, so the middle of America isn’t bankrolling anyone.
Here’s a novel idea. Not a single liberal gave a shit about conservatives during the last 8 years. Things that were concerning to conservatives like the democrats complete destruction of the healthcare system and massive entitlement costs as Obamacare doubled the national debt. Now you want them to care about you? Sorry, but you can piss off. I have zero sympathy for left wing lunatics that are bankrupting this country.
Ian, I like how you sugar coat … I couldn’t have said it better myself.
As an independent voter who has voted for both parties in the past, I was confused as to how conservatives couldn’t see the danger in a president who coined a term for a clear, and intelligence insulting misinformation campaign. I researched the difference between the mindset of liberal vs conservative and here is my theory– Liberal mindset is to challenge authority and learn a better way and conservative is focused on order and following the chain of command. By definition–conservative view point will not challenge trump, and imo trump displays the characteristics of a sociopath. Acting like a tough guy,… Read more »
Also–liberal mindset of challenging everything tends to water down the argument when there is a real danger–like now for instance
When they tarred and feathered a decent human being like Mitt Romney it left them nowhere to go when it came to an ass like Trump. Now we all face the “consequences.” The lessons learned for the Dems are: 1. Work with the legislatures to compromise around substantive change that everyone can buy into. Presidents don’t get to make excuses; they have to lead. Leaders bring others around to their ideas. This was Obama’s biggest failure. 2. What you can enact with a “pen and a phone” the next guy can undo. The sheer arrogance of the previous presidency here… Read more »
Destroyed health care how? Left wing lunatics? Bankrupting? Give us a measured answer and thanks!
You’re really going to ask that? I’m not even a US citizen, and I’ll help out here. The US National Debt has gone from $9.7 trillion at the start of 2008 to $19.7 trillion the day Obama left office (+/- a few billion), as can be tracked here:
http://www.usdebtclock.org/
As for health care…the litany of horror stories abound. Here’s a recent article from the Washington Post, assuming that on a Sunday afternoon, the liberals have decided that it’s “fake news” today:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/get-there/wp/2016/11/01/where-obamacare-prices-are-rising-dramatically/
You really don’t know anything much about your own country, do you?
Sorry, that last number should have read $19.97 trillion, but what’s $270 billion, when you’re talking about these kinds of numbers?
As you’re the guy who referred to “whitey white” Trump voters why on earth would they respond in a measured tone? You yourself have been part of the problem.
Don’t blame me- I voted for Gary.
Also Ian, which conservatives didn’t liberals (which liberals?) care about? The ones in Congress or regular citizens?
Jeremy, To be clear: I am not a Republican, but even I was VERY concerned when I saw: (1) the Affordable Care Act passed without a single Republican vote, (2) Justice Sotomayor, who had a documented history of essentializing white men, affirmed along party lines because the Republicans lacked the votes to block, (3) Harry Reid using the “nuclear option” to affirm appointments after the Republicans explicitly avoided using that option during the last two years of George W. Bush’s term, (4) President Obama’s October 17, 2013 remark to Republicans that if they “don’t like a particular policy . .… Read more »
Do you really not remember this at all? How can you not recall the events of just three years ago? Oh there is no question they see it? How can you tell? Because during the election cycle Clinton supporters had no problem retelling stories of sexist treatment she experienced while in college over 30 years ago. They also liked to frequently bring up how women just got the vote about 100 years ago. And they also have no problem remembering all the bad things Trump has said/done over the last 40 years. So there is no question that they remember… Read more »
