High-profile Democratic wins in Alabama and Pennsylvania have left many wondering whether the GOP can keep control of Congress in the 2018 midterm elections, but some conservative strategists believe they have found a secret weapon. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told the Boston Globe on Tuesday that Dems are poised to take back the House of Representatives in November and that she’s ready to lead them. “We will win. I will run for speaker,” Pelosi said. “I feel confident about it.” Republicans are feeling confident along with her, though for different reasons. “Pelosi is already the most unpopular politician in America,” National Republican Congressional Campaign Committee spokesman Jesse Hunt said in an email to reporters on Wednesday. “The prospect of her implementing an extremely progressive agenda will be a huge motivator for Republicans this fall.” A quick look online seems to support Hunt’s statement. Pelosi gets 64 percent negative opinions, perhaps because of headlines in early April claiming that the House Minority Leader had vowed to raise taxes if Democrats take back the chamber. Pelosi’s actual statement was more nuanced, but Social does not seem inclined to take chances. –Hugo Guzman
