Steve Jaeger finds Donald Trump bombastic, but is not convinced The Donald even wants to be President. Ted Cruz, however, is on “a mission from God”.

“The party establishment is beginning to realize it needs to coalesce around Ted Cruz”
I read the above quote this past week on the Associated Press Website. It was attributed to a Cruz staffer but it made my blood run cold. Especially after Senator Lindsey Graham, a frequent and loud Cruz critic said essentially the same thing.
The GOP has spent the past seven years turning over the reigns of the party to its crazy far right wing and now they are shocked, SHOCKED that someone like Donald Trump may win the party’s nomination for president. Trump and his fanatical followers is being compared to Hitler and the eerie resemblance of the rise of National Socialism in Germany in the 1920’s by many but in my mind Ted Cruz is far closer to Der Fuhrer than the Donald is.
Like Hitler and Germany, Cruz is not native to our land. Hitler was an Austrian, Cruz is a Canadian. This alone makes me wonder how it is possible for Mr Cruz to run for the highest office in the land. While the birthers on the right always insisted that the facts of President Obama’s birth were murky, there are no doubts about Ted Cruz. He was born in Canada to a Cuban father and an American mother. The fact that his mother was American makes Cruz and American citizen but a “Natural Born” citizen? I thought that was reserved for those born on American soil. At last check, our neighbor to the north is a sovereign country and while I’m sure they are glad to be rid of Ted, they must still claim him as one of their own at least geographically.
Also like Hitler, Ted Cruz is a fanatic. Hitler’s fanaticism was nationalistic and racial while Cruz is a Christian Zealot. He is the type of Christian who does not practice what he preaches. He has stated again and again that his first act as president will be to repeal Obama Care thereby denying healthcare coverage to millions of Americans, mostly lower income families. He is an immigrant who wants to deny a better life to millions of other immigrants. He would deny basic human rights to American citizens based on sexual orientation and preaches scorn and derision on anyone who does not share his evangelical beliefs. Adolf Hitler believed that anyone who did not share his so called Aryan blood was inferior and he preached scorn and derision.
Even without the comparisons Cruz is the most frightening threat from within we have faced since South Carolina fired on Fort Sumpter. He despises our government and Washington Insiders yet wants to be the leader of that Government. He wants to shut down the IRS, The EPA, the Department of Energy and the Department of Education thereby throwing tens of thousands of Americans out of work and to add insult to injury, make sure all those poor newly unemployed people will have no access to healthcare. He wants to deny basic rights to the LGBT community and give the energy companies free reign to pollute our air and rivers. He opposes any restrictions on guns and would roll back all abortion laws to pre Roe v Wade. He denies climate change and evolution.

Donald Trump is bombastic and fits the definition of a demagogue to a tee yet he is also a pragmatist. He knows that deals have to be struck in order to get anything done and has backtracked on many of his more inflammatory statements. Cruz came into the senate as a bomb thrower and does not figure to be any different if (God forbid) he is elected President. Cruz is on a mission from God and if his mission leads to the biblical End of Days, so much the better.
I am still not fully convinced that Donald Trump wants to be president. I think he wants us to want him but I really don’t see him giving up his life for the bubble inside the Beltway. I believe that many of Trump’s more inflammatory statements were attempts at self destruction and he is probably just as surprised as anyone that they have not torpedoed his campaign. Now that he has come this far and is so close to the nomination I think he’s as freaked out as anyone and also knows that if he bails now, Ted Cruz can walk to the nomination.
With Hillary Clinton as the likely candidate for the Democratic Party and all the baggage that comes with her, Fox News is gearing up the department of fear and loathing for the fall campaign. I don’t think Donald Trump’s popularity in the primaries will translate to the general election but Cruz with his Elmer Gantry like delivery really scares me. With him in charge of the executive branch, a republican congress and an even more conservative Supreme Court, I fear for our country. We only need to look at Kansas and Louisiana with their conservative utopias (that have failed spectacularly) to get a preview of what’s in store. Trump can go back to his Penthouse and live out his days building hotels where they are not needed while the rest of us drink poisoned water and our crumbling schools churn out children who can quote the bible but think that Lincoln is buried in Grant’s Tomb.
God help us.

So this article boils down to this: you don’t like Cruz because he holds traditionally conservative ideals and that his dad denies evolution (after a few minutes on google I could only find his dad holding that view), and you do so using unnecessarily inflammatory writing. As far as I can tell most of his policies you complain about are those that are shared by most of the GOP candidates. After an utterly ridiculous and unjustified comparison of Cruz to Hitler you call Cruz a Christian Zealot (again without justification) and a hypocrite (without rather faulty reasoning). Just because a… Read more »
Correction: in the second line of the second paragraph: “without rather faulty reasoning” was meant to be “with rather faulty reasoning”.
Dunno what you’re all worrying about. Apart from Hilary that is. 🙂 Trump will never be President. The GOP will see to it that he doesnt get the nomination. There is the other possibility… that the whole point is to polarise and drag the GOP rightwards, leaving Hilary a clear run at it? Could someone be so ridiculously over the top and seriously expect the establishment not to go into overdrive to protect the status quo? It really wouldnt surprise me if it came out in the next 5 years or so that all Trump was doing was running a… Read more »
“I’m still not fully convinced that Donald Trump wants to be president. I think he wants us to want him but I really don’t see him giving up his life for the bubble inside the Beltway”
I’ve been seeing comments like this ever since Trump announced his candidacy. If he was half as skiddish about the idea of being president as you and some others seem to think he is, he never would have ran in the first place.
And Hillary does not scare you? That it doesn’t scares me half to death.
Well, at least Hillary does not talk to God or spend two hours on her knees waiting for the call! What scares me is how some presidential candidates claim to have a direct line to God!
Ted Cruz graduated with honors from Princeton and Harvard law. He’s not some dullard.
The only quote he has ever had on talking to God was “Well, I am blessed to receive a word from God every day in receiving the scriptures and reading the scriptures. And God speaks through the Bible.” For a Christian or any religious person, this is not controversial in the least.
You should probably read about Ted Cruz and the Seven Mountain Dominionism that is espoused by his father and other people who guide him. I have no problems with anyone’s religious beliefs unless they want to try and force their beliefs on others. Cruz believes that the USA should be a Christian Nation yet he fire sakes the poor and disadvantaged.
Ted Cruz is a Southern Baptist; he isn’t a member of his Dad’s church. Southern Baptists aren’t some lunatic fringe- there are nearly 20 million of them in the USA. Jimmy Carter was a member of the Southern Baptist Church.
You should probably read something other than dailykos if you want accurate info on someone’s beliefs.
Dominionism would require an extremely powerful central government which is completely counter to Cruz’s stated positions.
Yes, Cruz is a Southern Baptist who also professes hardline evangelical beliefs. Once again? I have no problems with anyone’s faith as long as they don’t try to force their faith on anyone else. Cruz wishes to impose his right wing Christian beliefs on the rest of us. And for the record, I don’t read the Daily Kos or any other far left publication although I used to subscribe to the Catholic Worker
I understand you disagree with Cruz’s views on many things, but where is he trying to force his faith on anyone? Getting rid of Obamacare, the EPA, Roe v Wade, and the other things you mentioned, are hardly examples of forcing you to believe anything. That seems rather inflammatory. Why not simply say you would rather have Trump than Cruz and list the reasons why instead of making ridiculous statements about poisoned water, crumbling schools, and the “End of Days”.
No. True. She just talks classified data to folks on an unsecured private server.
Any child born to a US citizen is considered a full US citizen by default. Sovereign territory and “US soil” only matter if neither parent is a US citizen. Whether Ted Cruz was born in Canada, a Siberian gulag, the moon, or Narnia is utterly irrelevant – he has been a US citizen since birth and, regrettably is perfectly eligible to be president. This argument really needs to die and remain dead.
D, I agree … quit grabbing at straws. Does anyone really think that if this were a valid issues that it wouldn’t have thrown him out of the running?
I’m not so sure you’re correct D, the Constitution is ambiguous and there are a slew of court cases going back to the 1800’s that still leave the definition of Natural Born Citizen open to interpretation. The Supreme Court has never ruled on the issue but the majority of the lower court decisions seem to come down to the person must be born on United States soil to be considered natural born
