Someone I love has power.
Someone he loves uses words that hurt.
Someone she loves speaks in ways that shame.
Someone they love uses words that could kill.
Someone we love is darkness posing as light.
And we do not know what to do. So in the name of love and with a mustard seed of hope, this video attempts to show the power of words . . . so this person we love can understand his power, can see her power, can harness our power to hold, to cherish, to open, to see, to love.
I try because at one point in time, I did not fully understand the power of words. I did not think before I spoke at times. And I, hurting, hurt.
I try because at one point someone reached out to me, and said, “I pray you to pause.”
I try to reach out because there is a wideness in mercy and love that expands and enfolds and encourages a person, a family, a people, a religion to consider change.
I try to reach out because if I do not . . . if we do not step out of this cancel culture, sameness will keep breeding sameness, and innocents will be weaponized.
I am a person, a mother, a sister who with a mustard seed of hope still identifies as Catholic, alongside being an LGTBQ+ ally. While my church says they “cannot bless a sin” I create and write to try to reach out in the name of gratitude for the many loving blessings I have received from my LGTBQ+ friends, family, sisters, and brothers.
For if I am to stay with this ancient ship who once taught that the Earth was “the immovable center of the universe,” I must work to help them see that in other situations too, the earth does indeed encircle the sun. We set imprisoned Galileo who spoke out for Copernicus free and 300 years later admitted wrong. . . .
Perhaps it is time for eyes to open, ears to hear, and tongues to prophesy? Perhaps together we can listen to today’s prophets, be today’s prophets . . . for who are we to throw seeded stones disguised as love in the name of love?
Words have power. How are you using your power? How are we using our words?
It is time to figure it out. For words have power.
