This summer, 3-year-old Jameson Kessler will be his little sister’s hero when he donates his bone marrow to save her life.
The Kessler family was thrown for a loop when, during a seemingly normal checkup, their cheery 1-year-old daughter Samantha was diagnosed with thalessmia, a rare blood disorder that only 1000 people in the United States have.
She has to get regular blood transfusions and will only have a life expectancy of 40 unless she gets a bone marrow transplant from a perfect match.
Her brother Jameson is that perfect match.
Kyrie Kessler, the children’s mother, told Jameson that he could save his sister’s life, and he was excited to help her. He even has a skeleton costume that he wears and calls himself “Marrow Man,” his sister’s superhero.
The family has a GoFundMe page set up for people to help with the medical costs, and it even attracted the attention of the local Domino’s Pizza owner, who has offered to provide some free meals to them.
The process of donating bone marrow can leave the donor uncomfortable after the anesthetic wears off, but Marrow Man isn’t afraid.
“I’m going to make her feel better, and then I’m going to save her when she’s in trouble,” Jameson said with a proud smile.
