Star Trek fans, sit down. TheWeek.com has big news:

“He wants to build a fully working version of the iconic spacecraft by the year 2032. The proposal calls for a ‘full-sized, ion-powered version of the Enterprise complete with 1G of gravity on board,’ says Universe Today.”

“The Gen1 would run on nuclear power, and keep travelers’ feet planted to the ground using a constantly rotating gravity-wheel to generate 1G of gravitational force.”
While I’m not sure I have a ton of confidence in a fella calling himself “BTE Dan”, people seem to be taking him quite seriously. Apparently his plans are very thorough and he’s an electrical engineer at “a Fortune 500 Company.” Dude is obviously crazy smart.
The bad news? The real-life USS Enterprise will not be able to fly at warp speed. Sorry, no traveling at the speed of light in this century.

P.S. Is anyone else thinking that this BTE Dan might be just the guy we need to solve the energy crisis as opposed to, oh say… I don’t know, building the actual real-lie USS Enterprise?
