Sometimes people do things because it’s just the right thing to do.
When Hayden Carlo was pulled over for an expired registration ticket in Plano, TX, he expected a ticket and that was it. What he actually got was renewed faith in God and the goodness of humanity. KTVT reports,
He told the officer he had no excuse for the expired sticker. ‘There’s no explanation for why I haven’t done it, except I don’t have the money, It was either feed my kids or get my registration done.
The officer, who wishes to remain anonymous, wrote the expected citation but that’s not where this story ends. To Mr. Carlo’s surprise when he opened the ticket there was a $100 bill tucked inside.
Carlo was able to update the registrations on his car and his wife’s car with the money. He’s now driving to a new job and providing for his growing family, after a gift from the last person he would have expected to help during tough times … He helped me out when I needed it and I appreciate that. I’ll never forget that man. It definitely restored my faith in God.
According to the report, the officer never said anything about his amazing gesture, but Billy McIntire who is Mr. Carlo’s grandfather was so touched by what this officer did for his family he wrote a letter to the department expressing his gratitude. He said,
I get emotional when we talk about this type of thing. You just don’t find that many officers who would do this type of thing.
Although the officer wishes to remain anonymous, his coworkers plan to honor him anyway. The Plano Police Department’s spokesperson David Tilly said,
As he told me, this man needed it more than him, and it was the right thing to do.
In the wake of the tragedies that seem to overwhelm the media in the last few weeks, this story and others like it from across the nation serve remind us that there are still good men everywhere we turn.
