Maria Petrove said, “He is my knight and my saviour. All that pain was worthwhile because it led me to my Andriej.”
26-year-old Andriej Ivanov was so heartbroken after the tragic death of his fiancee, who was killed in a car accident the day before their wedding, he decided to end his own life. He planned to jump of the bridge in Ufa, Russia. However, according to Orange News, when Ivanov got to the bridge he found that someone else had the same plan. Maria Petrove, who is 21 years old, was climbing the railing, preparing to throw herself more than 100 feet into the freezing Belaya River because her parents had kicked her out after she told them she was pregnant.
Ivanov got there just in time to pull her back. He said:
Something in my heart snapped and I couldn’t let her do it no matter how broken my own heart was. I shouted, “Stop” and ran over to her. She fell into my arms sobbing and I began crying too. We held each other and talked, and talked and talked. That night saved my life – and hers.
After talking all night about everything that had brought each of them to that bridge on that fateful night, the couple decided to help each other heal from their individual tragedies. The plan on getting married, after they tell their families of how fate intervened and not only saved their lives, but found them true love as well.
