The star makes his denial of a Senate race official.
Ben Affleck announced that he will not be entering the race for the Massachusetts Senate seat that will be up for grabs if Senator John Kerry becomes secretary of state. The New York Times reports that on Christmas Eve Mr. Affleck wrote on his Facebook page,
I love Massachusetts and our political process, but I am not running for office … We are about to get a great secretary of state, and there are some phenomenal candidates in Massachusetts for his Senate seat. I look forward to an amazing campaign.
Mr. Affleck, who is an active participant in the charity he created to encourage and facilitate peaceful development in Africa’s Congo region, the Eastern Congo Initiative, also wrote about,
Supporting our veterans, drawing attention to the great many who go hungry in the U.S. every day and using filmmaking to entertain and foster discussion about issues like our relationship to Iran.
Not only is he an award winning actor, director, writer, husband, and father of two Ben Affleck is quite obviously passionate about many social issues. Perhaps most impressively, he clearly has an ability many successful men lack: he knows that being good at some things does not mean he’ll be good at everything. It is an admirable quality to know one’s own limitations.
