breaking-news

Police are still searching for the shooter.

A shooting has taken place at one of the Nay Yard buildings in Washington, DC. According to Fox News, an unidentified male gunman armed with a “large shotgun” opened fire at the headquarters of the Naval Sea Systems Command in Navy Yard, the oldest base of the U.S. Navy.

A press release from the US Navy has reported “one confirmed injury” and explained that “emergency personnel are on scene and a ‘shelter in place’ order has been issued for Navy Yard personnel.” However, a tweet from the DC Fire Department reports as many as five victims.

As of 8:50 EST the shooter had not yet been found and was being considered “active” by both the DC police and the Navy.

UPDATE: ABC News reports that there are at least 10 wounded and 4 dead, including 2 police officers, after this mornings shooting. According to officials it “appears that a shooter has been neutralized,” but the situation is still being considered “fluid” and the scene is still being cleared by police.

At least 10 people are injured and four are dead after a shooting at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., this morning.

UPDATE: According to NBC News, DC city Police Chief Cathy Lanier said there were 12 people killed in this mornings shooting at the Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, DC. One shooter was killed at the scene, but the chief also said there could be “as many as two other suspects at large, one white and one black, both seen wearing military-style uniforms.”

There have not been confirmed reports that more than one person had opened fire, but the FBI will be assisting in the investigation into what has now become the deadliest mass shooting in the US since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., last December, and the worst at a military installation since 13 people were killed at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009.
