8-year-old Tyler Doohan is a warrior you need to know about. During the final breaths of his life he waded through a burning mobile home and brought six of his relatives to safety. But his disabled grandfather, a man he considered his best friend, was still in the house. So Tyler went back into the roaring fire and it was this final act of heroism that cost him his life. According to CNN, Tyler’s body was found next to the man he loved most. May you rest in peace, brother. Your selfless spirit will live on in many.
In keeping with the name of this site and the discussion this afternoon-
Why isn’t this titled “8 Year Old BOY…..?
Oh I’m sorry maybe Hero is a synonym?
Stepping up is hard enough, stepping into a fire is superhuman.
Hero is the masculine form of the word. Were it a girl, it would say Heroine. (Except when people don’t use the proper forms, to be fair.)
And it’s the perfect word. May the wee little hero be remembered many years from now, and I regret he didn’t make it. That is amazing and heartbreaking.
Thought we tossed that when female thespians started calling themselves actors.
This actually brought tears to my eyes.
I can’t imagine the pain his parents must be feeling, but it must be mixed with a strange feeling of pride. There are so few that would take the risk he took out of love. If there is another side, I sure hope to meet him and shake his hand one day.
