With at least 51 people dead from the giant tornado that ripped through Oklahoma, the Wheeler family was relieved to know that their son was alive.
Gabriel Wheeler was in class when the tornado directly hit his school. His teacher first had the students in the hallway, but as the thundering noise of the storm grew, she and her six students holed up in a closet to stay safe. To relieve tension, she tried telling stories, until the school started to collapse.
With bricks falling, the teacher tried to shield the kids from the debris. One boy’s head was struck and bleeding, but when the tornado finally moved on, the seven people were alive. Gabriel helped the other students, pulling bricks off of them and helping them out of the rubble when they were able to move again, and in the end, all of the students were reunited with their families.
