I am not a “gamer.” And I don’t know how many gamers read the Good Men Project.
But the issue that Bob “MovieBob” Chipman addresses on TheEscapist.com is not limited to Geekdom. No, sexism needs to be stopped everywhere. And GMP applauds MovieBob’s efforts to do so.
I always assumed that since nerds have been picked on throughout their lives, they’d be less likely to turn on others. Apparently not:
“A culture that paradoxically defines itself by their shared experience of social marginalization, but can often be observed practicing just as much insular conformity within its own borders.”
But here is where MovieBob steps forward in the hero’s cape (and wields his humor hammer with exceptional precision in the last line):
“I do not accept the premise that sexual harassment or misogyny, bigotry or hatred of any kinds is somehow integral to the fighting game community or video game community or anywhere else, but if such a community does exist… it should be disinfected via sunlight.”
Bravo, Bob. You, sir, are a Good Man.
What are some other arenas/cultures that need a MovieBob to speak out and lead the charge against sexism?
