How does this…
Become this…
I like to think I have my finger on the pulse of pop culture. I watch American Idol. I listen to a lot of music. I watch reality television and even dabble in a little People Magazine once in a while (okay our household has a subscription). How is it, then, that until 48 hours ago I was NOT one fo the 500 million view of “Gangnam Style.”
The questions are too numerous to list out in their entirety here but a few that pop to mind. Who is this guy? Why is he dancing like that? Did some great mind put this video together with the stated intention of global domination?
But one question rises above all else: why do 7 year-old boys find this zany Korean dude (he is Korean right?) so captivating that they want to learn and duplicate his every dance step?
Somebody please enlighten me.

(update: Just did a web search and discovered that “YouTube sensation Psy is a military vet, a father of twins, and the heir to his family’s semiconductor business.”)
What a happy and awesome little guy. He is confident…all due confidence is there Tom.
Now it will be interesting to see if he’ll allow you to show that at various milestone parties…HS Graduation, wedding, et. al.
I bet he will !
Too cute!
My son plays this song on his iPhone all the time…!
Check out on youtube: “Mitt Romney Style” (so hysterical!)
I’m captivated by “Gangnam Style” and have to watch it on YouTube every few days for my fix. It’s insanely danceable. Psy’s “horsey dance” reminds me of what Axl Rose used to do with the mike in the MTV video for “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” My little bit of research told me that Gangnam is the poshest district of Seoul, and this is mocking the nouveau riche. I’m fascinated at this glimpse of Korean schadenfreude. (Dude’s dancing with a human Hi-Liter who is, I’m told, a TV personality in his own right, so I have to figure Psy’s already enjoying… Read more »
This is seriously adorable. Your son is great at this dance. My seven-year-old son is equally obsessed with this song (and the dance) — at least at home where he lets his guard down (not in public where he tries to keep an “I’m too cool for that song” demeanor, haha). All three of my boys dance to it on the bed (even the one-year-old). The beat is catchy and I think it lets kids just be as silly as they want to be. Especially boys. There’s no self-consciousness in PSY’s dance style. He doesn’t take himself too seriously. He’s… Read more »
Cole’s impressively good at that dance. My 7 year-old slapped himself on the forehead when he first saw it, but my 5 year-old is very into it, just as Cole is, but both my kids mimicked every single step of Michael Jackson’s “Jam” from This Is It – they were obsessed.
And am I the only one who thinks this song sounds like Ricky Martin?
What I’m hoping is that Psy is able to turn this new exposure into something bigger than being a “one hit wonder” (I put that in quote marks because even though this is his first major exposure outside of Asia, Gangnam Style is actually a track from like his 6th or 7th album, meaning he has been active for a long time.)
he has been really active for a long time in Korea, he is one of the biggest star and singer there. And many of american accusing him copy LMFAO style lol, he already have this style even before LMFAO dudes reach puberty
