George Soros warns of financial collapse and class warfare in a chilling interview with Newsweek’s John Alridge.
“At times like these, survival is the most important thing,” he says, peering through his owlish glasses and brushing wisps of gray hair off his forehead. He doesn’t just mean it’s time to protect your assets. He means it’s time to stave off disaster. As he sees it, the world faces one of the most dangerous periods of modern history—a period of “evil.” Europe is confronting a descent into chaos and conflict. In America he predicts riots on the streets that will lead to a brutal clampdown that will dramatically curtail civil liberties. The global economic system could even collapse altogether.
“I am not here to cheer you up. The situation is about as serious and difficult as I’ve experienced in my career,” Soros tells Newsweek. “We are facing an extremely difficult time, comparable in many ways to the 1930s, the Great Depression. We are facing now a general retrenchment in the developed world, which threatens to put us in a decade of more stagnation, or worse. The best-case scenario is a deflationary environment. The worst-case scenario is a collapse of the financial system.”

the world has a surplus population, theres a possibility of trade wars sparking between countries if the global economy worsens. it almost seems like we are yet again sleepwalking into another world war.
id encourage everyone reading to have at least one month’s supply of food and water stocked*, incase of the breakdown of the justintime delivery network that businesses seem to now use.
* (i have one month’s worth of baked bean, pasta, rice and two week’s store of boiled water. with plenty of spare 2ltr cola bottles in storage ready to be filled – im thinking of buying glass bottles, as ive gone off plastic due to how it leechs into water)
Yeah I need to restock the supplies, but we generally have that because of cyclones where it can be a week or more without food in the shopping centers. Cyclone announced, shops become empty, everyone panics. Cyclone hits, tree’s down over the main supply roads, floods or the roads get washed away….real fun stuff.
We got some 20litre water containers, but they’re plastic sadly, and water purity tabs can be handy otherwise boiling water time!
If economies start to collapse though, god/whoever help us all because it’s going to hurt badly.
Archy – I’ve been wanting to relocate and hunker down in The Daintree, up around Cape Tribulation, since the start of 2008. Off Grid, Good Creek Water and a Nice Solar Array. Cyclones can be managed – it’s people who are truly unpredictable. P^) Some may be surprised by Mr Soros’ views and warnings. I’m not! The writing on the wall has been getting bigger for quite a long time. Some have finally seen it because one person has pointed at it. There are some who, as economists, look at only how to make money. There are other’s who look… Read more »
I’m where cyclone yasi and larry hit 3 hours from there:P And I agree about managing with the weather, you can live off the land quite comfortably here as long as you have appropriate shelter but be mindful that during cyclone larry, every mountain here had much of their leaves removed and the tree damage in both cyclones was immense. Need a lil cave. Beautiful place though. I try not to dwell on the future anymore, anxious enough as it is, but even in a state of calm I would tell everyone to learn first aid and survival, you can… Read more »
Archy – I had two friends who got stuck near Cardwell for Yasi. They were on a 3 month touring holiday and one came down with some from of Tropical Sprue the day the alerts went up. They couldn’t get out as advised. As they said afterwards – It was very interesting and turned their world views upside down. They had to stay in the hotel with quite a few others who had missed the chance to leave. If in doubt – amber nectar! P^)
Haha I think I remember 3 weeks of floods in Ingham and Cardwell, not sure if that was during Yasi. Shops here were empty and they were flying stuff in, sending ships up from Townsville loaded with groceries too.
Periods of enlightenment bookended by chaos and darkness. Sigh.
is that a quote?
Yup It’s a Quote – Julie Gillis said it – It’s official!
Needs Copyrighting! She should earn enough from usage to get through! P^)
Hahahahaha!
You think I’m Joking? Just google it and see what happens! I can assure you that someone will grab it and steal some thunder! P^0
