Lynn Beisner was deeply dismayed at Gordon Dalbey’s article Delivered from Abortion: Healing a Forgotten Memory, which ran as a part of The Good Life’s special section on Abortion. In it, Dalbey claims an in-utero memory of being at risk of being aborted, and uses this narrative in order to compel people not to have abortions, because he is so grateful for his life.
Lynn was so dismayed, in fact, that she wrote a response piece for Role/Reboot called I Wish My Mother Had Aborted Me from an opposing angle, that of a person who looks back at the choices her mother made and insists that her mother deserved more than to have lived the life she did after giving birth to Lynn.
The article exploded and was reprinted a number of times (including here at GMP) and drew international attention. On Sunday, Lynn was interviewed for the BBC Newshour about her experience. The audio file is available here, please fast forward to approximately 26:30.
What do you think of Lynn Beisner’s statement about abortion? Can you identify with Beisner? Does this perspective affect the way you see the Pro-Choice/Pro-Life debate?
