Mark Ellis believes that in the case of those who sexually abuse or murder children, there should be no mercy for “good behavior,” no cover-ups, and no reassignments.
The horror.
In a news clip from a Salt Lake City station a distraught neighbor tearfully called for the death penalty, “swift and sure.” Ain’t it the truth? We need to start offing the baby killers.
Where I live in Portland that same week another degenerate locked a young boy in the bathroom of a fast food restaurant. When unable to complete his abominable act he stabbed the child repeatedly. The Oregonian promptly produced a photo from this monster’s 1993 sentencing hearing — on charges he had molested an eight year old boy repeatedly over the course of a summer. They’d sent the bastard up, but he’d gotten out early on whatever passes for good behavior from a child rapist.
As society reels from the Sandusky revelations, and the Catholic Church begins the long road back from its pedophilia scandals, a significant plurality of the populace is awakening to the fact that moral relativism, rehabilitation theory, and misguided humanist leniency is weakening our just retributive obligations as a civilization.
We’ve got to start thinning the herd of these subhuman predators.
Death penalty advocates point to Biblical admonitions like “an eye for an eye,” and the sixth commandment, “Thou Shalt Not Kill.” Capital punishment opponents turn that argument back, saying that if God rules over heaven and earth, it is not our place to mete out the ultimate punishment.
But there’s another theological truism, not in the Bible, but I think it applies here: “God helps those who help themselves.” I’ll extrapolate that this especially applies to helping our children. We need to start helping ourselves and our children by ensuring swift, sure, lengthy, punishment for child predators. When a child’s premeditated death is involved, that justice needs to be final.
Death penalty opponents say that if people could only see an actual execution they would abolish the death penalty. I’ll wager that if I could get a dime from every U.S. citizen who would take the day off work to help hang the Utah killer if convicted, I’d be a millionaire.
Over in Norway, one can imagine a Euro-decadent Ministry of Punitive Arts considering whether convicted child slaughterer Anders Breivik should be allowed to have cable television in his cell.
Here in America we’ve had it with the child killers. Nobody gives a damn about rehabilitation for these reptiles. The message needs to be sent, to cowards like the Utah killer, powerful perverts like Sandusky, and — as a Catholic this pains me most — those men of the Cross who descended into the lowest circle of earthly Hell. You won’t get rehabilitated, there will be no mercy for “good behavior,” no cover-ups, and no reassignments.
Human justice will be delivered to you, right up to a final, permanent solution to the mistake that is your existence. After that God will sort things out.
I have every reason in the world to want some people zapped by the state. Four of them to be exact. OK…so why is Rob against the death penalty? Because I know how the courts work and how corrupt persecutors and cops are. If you look at Barry Scheck’s Innocence Project, you’ll see an astounding rate of acquittal for death-row inmates based solely and fully upon DNA evidence. I will do ANYTHING for child safety, but NOTHING is a good or equitable trade-off for a wrongful execution of an innocent person. Cops ARE corrupt (in droves) Prosecutors are lying scum… Read more »

ABC News Murder caught on camera.
Melanie Goodwin’s murder case took a u-turn, as Surveillance cameras at multiple locations showed the accused, Ernesto Reyes, stalking the victim, Goodwin, and then coldly carrying out the grisly work of disposing her body. Although it has been noted that Reyes was involved in the murder of the University of North Texas student in the year 2007, the accused is supposed to get “a life imprisonment” instead of a death sentence.
Is this Justice? NOT!!
Today on ABC News. I can’t paste the video to watch but you can go to ABC News and watch it.
This is what I mean. We need the dealth penalty for these types of individuals.

To Well:
Its ok because it is true justice and the person has been proven guilty without a doubt by his own actions, such as the Duncan case not to mention DNA and eye witnesses.
So, it’s okay to kill people as long as you’re really, really mad or really, really scared.
Put another way: as long as you feel strongly enough, you can do whatever you want to someone else. Ironically, I believe that’s a common rapist mindset as well.
I am an atheist because I don’t like the violent foundations that religions are built on.
I do understand other peoples faith, and how it helps them, and our world.
Lockup Raw … a series on MSNBC. It’s worth watching in that they do a pretty good job showing what life in prison is all about. Yeah, you will see some cells with TV’s and radios but overall, not a good place to be. Especially in isolation units.
The death penalty as a single solution to a single very serious problem, is 100% effective. Everyone argues” is it a determent”, though we know it is not an attractant. As for the calls for heads to roll mixed with religiousness, this has been the battle cry of religion for 500000 years. And it’s why I’m an atheist . I believe it can be done on a case by case basis. Duncan received several death penalities and there is no question that he did it. Why does that have to have a bearing on other cases? So because others may be innocent, Duncan gets to live because our justice system cannot define on a case by case basis what is clearly right before ones eyes? If he should live or die. “maybe because they are humans? treating them as Hyppos would that makes you feel better?”
So…release them? Because locking them up treats them like animals.
Can’t kill them, but we can lock them away for life. Sounds strange…
Why is this even a question? Keeping people locked up is far more humane and practical then killing them. And while you can reverse a life sentence if new evidence comes to life, once a convict is dead they’re dead.
(I can’t remember where it was, but I seem to remember that one judge said that “factual innocence” – in other words, innocence – was not sufficient cause to overturn a death sentence. How is that justice?)
So what about for someone in jail for 50 years, their entire adult life in jail, no hope for freedom. Is that really humane? What is the point of keeping them alive? The benefit is incase they are innocent but what of those who aren’t found innocent, what purpose do they serve to humanity behind bars? Are we making them work? What are the effects on the mind with the loss of freedom, is it torture to be trapped away? It could be the lesser of 2 evils, or it could just be a different kind of evil.
Archy I do realize that . But still, people like Duncan have earned the Death Penalty. Your right, it serves no purpose, WHAT IS THE POINT OF KEEPING HIM ALIVE. NONE! but to hold a dangerous entity that is past all moral sense and humanity and would do it again if let out. It would be justice to put him down. Why should the taxpayers have to pay for him to live his life out in prison? Dylan Groene and his family never had an option.
I certainly know what reality is. I resent the fact that you make a joke of a serious situation that needs to be handled by our Goverment instead of overloading the penal system and taxpayers with scum of the earth like Jospeh Duncan III. I will repeat again. Clear cut, in that their is no question that the criminal is guilty as charged. Why don’t you read the case? I am “lenient” because not every murderer does us the courtesy of leaving evidence that they did it. Even in the age of DNA the justice system can still get it wrong. The sheriffs of the old west had their own modern technology too. What we have now is better of course, but it’s a long long way from being perfect. Even if a perfect system of determining guilt were developed it would still be suceptible to human failure and corruption.
No matter how good things get, any system incorporating the death penalty will kill innocent people along with the guilty.
Monkey,
I will say that makes you a better person than I am, I understand this.
But it does not change who I am and the list of people above will be dealt with by like-minded individuals like myself. Judging from the look of things.
Due process, always.
The death penalty, maybe.
I’m sorry.
So many things we deal with have a margin of error of 0.
I feel dealing with sexual predators one of those things.
The death penalty is another.
The world is changing. The list of people that should no longer expect to be treated the same way includes; Dictators, frauds, child molesters, rapist, thieves, bullies, bad cops, and manipulative media moguls.
Just to name a few.
Get ready here we come.
Yes, the world is changing. The majority of civilized countries have decided that executions are not true justice.
I would rather live in a world in which even the most heinous criminals are afforded due process and do not face the ultimate punishment.
What exactly are you implying?
Maybe, but margin of error for detection and conviction is a long way from 0.
Remember Clint Eastwood in “Hang im High”. We need to get back to true justice again. Why should the American Tax payer have to support Jospeh Duncan III any longer than it takes to put a bullet in his head and get it over with? In this case the justice system makes me sick it really does to think that this monster is allowed to live on our tax dollars.
Yes, let’s go back to lynching. They never, ever got the wrong man, did they?
Classic “Renew America” drivel. Surprised to see it on the Good Men Project, but proud of GMP for its openness to alternate viewpoints, however repulsive.
Orianna, you do realize, don’t you, that life isn’t a western, or an adventure film, or a video game? Many Americans have a hard time with that concept, referring, of course, to reality.

I can never understand what is meant by “clear cut case” or “we know they really did it.” ALL convictions are supposed to be “beyond a reasonable doubt.” There have been many, many cases of people wrongly convicted and on death row for many years or even executed.
Body found in their refrigerator, clear cut.
Extrapolate that to other body’s found in refrigerators.
OK
Don’t be paralyzed by indecision, some choices are clear.
But you can’t make a law that says “kill them if we’re only really, really sure he did it.”
Juries were really sure that a 14 year old raped and murdered his classmate. He was sentenced to hang. The jury was wrong.
Yes we can, and we did.
No, we can’t, and we haven’t. There is no way of distinguishing between people who are “really guilty” and “sort of guilty.” As long as the death penalty is in effect, there is the chance that innocent people will be executed.
And conversely, if the death penalty did not exist, innocent people will still be murdered, by people we know have done it before.
What can you live with.
I can live with no one being killed in my name via the government.
You act as if life without parole is not an option. It works just fine in Canada.
Life without parole is my first choice.
We are not that far apart.
If we release them and they kill again, it is via the government.
Which happens nowhere near as often as people are wrongly convicted.
Not true.
“As long as the death penalty is in effect, there is the chance that innocent people will be executed.”
Make that a certainty.
Monkey, Duncan video taped his vile impulses for all to see.
That is clear cut!!!!
Hey Monkey,
Is the Colorado shootings a clear enough case for you?
As I understand it the process of finding men guilty of sexual crimes is something of a random process with a very good chance of convicting an innocent person. This is based on DNA tests after the fact. The emotions are such that the process often just grabs a man almost at random and slams the court process through. The failure rate whereby innocent men are found guilty might be eg 20%.
We all really know who the bad guy is , in fact many are willing to hide it.
Beyond a shadow of doubt.
If you find the body in their refrigerator, their guilty. Always.
People that can’t identify the bad guy, are normally called victims.
Yes, in very rare cases the death penalty is called for.
The trouble is that “rare cases” often gets extrapolated to many, many more cases.
Would anyone in their right mind say that *not enough* people are executed in the US?
No, we would say the wrong people are executed.
And why is that? Not because society has some pathological need to to coddle criminals, but because the law is 1) different from state to state, and more importantly, 2) administered by human beings, who are flawed.
I’m amazed that people who are distrustful of everything the government does are perfectly to willing to allow the government to make the ultimate decisions about life and death.
Guy Paul Morin was found guilty of a horrible crime – the rape and murder of a 3 year old. In some U.S. states he would be dead. He was also innocent.
Because right now our society is unfair. We still have to do what is right These cases are anecdotal and laws are not made because one thing could happen. The judicial branch is the government, not to be trusted, too much. Although you are tried by your peers. These people were found guilty but they were not guilty. We have to do a better job, not stop doing the job. I am not willing to let one Innocent person die, because I did not address a murderer. I am not willing to put one innocent person to death, because of… Read more »

Seriously, though, making child rape a capital offense will practically guarantee that every child molester will attempt to kill his/her victim afterwards. If you’re going to be executed either way, then you may as well try to get rid of witnesses. It’s like one of the drawbacks to the “three strikes you’re out” policy for felonies – if I’m on felony #3, I won’t be giving up, but will fight to the death to get away.
Oops, turns out the kid’s parents put him up to it and the prosecution told the kid what to say, and the man in prison is not really guilty. Okay, we’ll just release him. Wait, he’s dead now? Oh well, never mind, we’ll just have to be more careful next time….
Mark, if we could perfectly know who did what, I would have no problem permanently culling truly evil people like this from the herd. In fact, I support the death penalty when delivered in self-defense by the victim whenever possible when the most heinous crimes are in progress. But there is a difference between a victim taking out the culprit in self-defense during commission of a crime when the guilty party can be established with certainty, and killing someone after the fact based on imperfect evidence, notoriously faulty eye witness testimony, and an inexact, and often corrupt, legal process. You… Read more »

As a writer myself, I won’t put such facts down without proof. I do my homework and shuffle through research. These are only two such sites I found. There are more, of course, but these show the most and are telling in their accuracy.
Kimberly – for your second link “proof”: those are raw numbers. Surely you need to divide the raw number by the total population to get a semblance of comparison, no?
Italy has 60 million people while the U.S. has 310 million….
Also, right at the bottom of the bar charts, you will find the following:
DEFINITION: Note: Crime statistics are often better indicators of prevalence of law enforcement and willingness to report crime, than actual prevalence.
When you put down a sick animal it is not revenge, justice or easy.
It is necessary.
Too bad for us, then, that humans commit crimes.
Too bad for us, then, that humans commit crimes.
You know that statement really says a lot about you. Obviously you are an ignorant moron to make that statement and if there is one thing I know,it is that you cannot teach or reason with an ignoramis such as yourself. It is ignoramises such as yourself and their ignorant thinking that let sick beasts like Duncan continue to live on taxpayers money. Obviously you have no compassion for the victims while you spout off your self righteouess statement like the one above.
There’s a certain irony in someone misspelling the word “ignoramus.” Anyway, the reason to “coddle” criminals like Duncan is that the other choice involves risking executing innocent people. My point being that if “sick animals” literally were the ones who committed crimes than they’re would be easy to mete out justice. But humans commit crimes, and more importantly humans investigate them, and sometimes they get the wrong person. I don’t want them killed. I want them to live my life on the bad days, experience my nightly nightmares and flashbacks that are so messed-up that I regularly piss myself. I want them to feel the humiliation of having their childhood’s journaled darkest experiences read aloud in a divorce court, then copied and distributed to a list or people that can’t be defined. I want them to know what it feels like to lose their children because of what happened to them as a CHILD!
Yay, revenge fantasies. That will make things better.
Am I not allowed such “revenge fantasies?” I’m only fantasizing that the baby-rapists experience my life, rich with pain and vacant of happiness. For example, last night I had about 15 flashbacks, all that frightened me as if I were still seven years-old. And how would you feel if your child was on death row for a crime they didn’t committ?
I feel the need to repeat myself here:
The people I have mentioned (again, one of whom would have been hanged when he was still a child) were “confirmed criminals.” the law sees no difference between Ted Bundy and Randall Dale Adams. To a court of law they were both guilty. Thankfully, only Bundy was executed.
Yes, I understand what you are saying. I understand what you mean. What I am saying is Duncan Video Taped himself. The jury had to watch it. I wonder how you would have felt having to watch it? He convicted himself. there was no question? int eh equation he was guility and a court of law convicted him and gave him several death sentences. Doing away with him would not hurt anyone else but him and even then he would not suffer like his victims. They don’t suffer like his victims did. They just go to sleep.
As I’ve written repeatedly, the law cannot make the difference. There’s no law that says “if there’s video evidence, then they’re really, REALLY guilty.” My point has been that the many examples of the wrongly convicted were found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, so they were considered completely guilty at the time. If they had been executed promptly, the courts would have committed murder. You cannot make a law that will execute the Duncans of this world without leaving it open to innocent prior being executed. Thus only eliminating the death penalty completely is humane. It’s terrible for the victims,… Read more »
@Orianna: Firstly, while execution is made as painless as possible, no execution method is suffering free.
Secondly: You keep referring to a case in which there was a video depicting the accused performing the crime and how you think in some cases the death penalty is appropriate, but not others. Fair enough. What criteria would you give the jury/judge for determining whether there is enough certainty for a death sentence. Keep in mind that video evidence can be faked.
Give me liberty or give me death.
An admission of guilt and a plea for the death penalty, IE: Gary Haugen, would satisfy my criteria.
I don’t feel the religious comment above was off topic, Mr. Ellis referenced religion six times in a short
one page? He is satisfied that if we err, God will sort them out. Our margin of error differs.
Excuse me. They did give him the dealth penalty several times over. The video clearly showed Duncan torturing and raping Dillon Groene and making his sister watch and raping her on the tape also. It was not made up. The jury had to have psychiatric counseling afterwards. Also, Shasta saw him shoot her brother in the head and stomach after raping him repeatedly and then burning his body. I don’t care if it is not painless. I am sure it is less painless than what he did to his victims.
Monkey, the evidence in the Duncan speaks for itself.
Right, and why cannot the law make a difference? That is the material point I am trying to make. Especially in regards to the Duncan case. It is very simple. But let us agree to disagree, since the law the way it is right now has a lot of loopholes in convicting innocent men, but it doesn’t have to be that way. That being said, you would have to have a lot of trust in the US legal system and there is a lot of corruption in it. So the victims are dammed if they do and they are dammed… Read more »
