Gun Rights Group Files Lawsuit Against Officials in Connectucut

The Office of the Connecticut Attorney General asserts that the new legislation is legal and the office is “prepared to vigorously defend the law against any court challenge.”

In early April, Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy signed what is considered to be one of the toughest gun control packages in the nation into state law. The legislation was in direct response to the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14th, that took the lives of 20 children and 6 staff members. Although there were opponents to the package, there was overwhelming support and the bills passed through both the state House and Senate with very little opposition.

However, according to the Associated Press a group of organizations that “support gun rights, pistol permit holders and gun sellers,” have filed a suit in federal court against state officials claiming that the new gun control legislation “violates their constitutional rights.” The group is seeking an injunction from the federal court which would make it illegal for the law to be enforced.
