We know Ann Coulter isn’t exactly a moderate, nor one to mince words. But how far is too far in American politics?
One great thing about America is the right to say essentially whatever you want, even about our President. But is there an element of responsibility that people in the media have to be responsible in their language?
Would this statement be different if it were about Romney as opposed to the President?
What do you think of Ann Coulter’s tweet? Is this inappropriate, or is all fair in politics and war?
I loathe Coulter and hate that word, but I find it hard to get too worked up about this because that word has been used by a lot of people who should know better (Rahm Emanuel, Lady Gaga)
Ann is just one of the talking heads guarding the inhabitants of Bullsh*t Mountain from rejoining the world of the sane. Fox News is a propaganda machine which dumbs down America by the day through disinformation and their slanted agendas. See their anchors spewing forth feces from their mouths in my visual homage to the network on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2012/10/the-fox-news-scylla-guardian-of-bullsht.html
She’s never been anything but odious; this incident only illustrates the desperation of someone desperately grasping for a shred of the relevance she imagines she once had. I’m reminded of the old Onion story “Marilyn Manson Now Going Door-To-Door Trying To Shock People.”
Of course it’s too far. Everything Coulter says is too far.
If people weren’t talking about how Coulter went too far they wouldn’t be talking about her at all, since there isn’t anything else to say.
And she can’t have that.
She just wants attention. Ignore her and she’ll go away.
What a joke she is! She is definitely losing it!
I like Coulter because she strips the tattered veneer of civility off the far right and shows us how much hate they really do want to create.
Ann Coulter is an asshole.
She may be something of an evil genius, actually.
Notice how everyone is talking about her word choice, instead of talking about Romney’s inability to say anything of substance about foreign policy. In one tweet, she’s changed “has nothing to say” into “being kind and gentle to the [opposition].” We talk about the word “retard” and focus on Obama’s intelligence and talk about the nature of the political process and diagnose her personality, instead of talking about the fact that Romney was a no-show on international affairs.
Brilliant misdirection of political energy in less than 140 characters…..
She’s motivating Obama’s base big time. I’m now voting to make her cry.
Pandering blow-hards like Coulter, Beck, Rush, and Hannity will continue to call Obama every possible name under the sun EXCEPT for the 1 name they all WANT to call him, but can’t.
The N-word.
Spot on.
“Going too far” is the Coultergeist’s job description; it’s her function and purpose to be as offensive, ignorant, and bigoted as possible.
I was wondering why he picked Paul Ryan for his running mate. Thanks for explaining it Ann.
Oh, maybe she was referring to a personal experience. Ooops, still not certain why he selected Paul Ryan.
Ann Coulter is not “in politics”. She’s in right wing troll journalism. If some of her more objectionable statements escape the echo chamber, just let them die.
Three points to make:
(1) Yes, the tweet was inappropriate. It’s an offensive word that most of civilized America has eradicated from our vocabulary.
(2) Besides, Obama is clearly not a “retard.” Whether we like him and his policies or not, his intelligence and acuity are beyond question.
(3) This shouldn’t have been news. Shame on you for making it news. Ann Coulter has no business being famous; she’s a glorified troll with very little insight to offer and yet people continue affording her airtime. Enough.
How far is too far? I would say that just about everything that comes out of Coulter’s mouth/keyboard/phone etc. is too far. Seriously, I cannot think of any way that someone could be even somewhat intelligent and believe even half of the things she says.
+1
There is making fun of people who have the capacity to defend themselves; there is making fun of people who don’t; and then there using the people who cannot defend themselves to make fun of the people who can defend themselves. The issue here isn’t whether she targeted Obama or Romney. The issue is the word choice; the degradation of a demographic. There is already a negative connotation with the word “retard,” and now she has lumped a person whom she clearly dislikes in with a group of people who sincerely cannot help their mental state. While I am sure… Read more »
Coulter’s still trolling, I see. Every year, though, fewer and fewer people feed the troll. Good.
