Our favorite out-of-work late-night sidekick is back. Despite some conflicting reports from the show’s host, it’s been confirmed that Andy Richter will return as Conan’s sidekick when Conan premieres on TBS, November 8th.
Richter said he’s “thrilled” to be working with O’Brien and he’s most exited about “getting out of the house again.”
O’Brien added, “This decision was made without my authority. … I will get to the bottom of this.”
The duo first paired up in 1993, for a seven-year run while Conan hosted “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” They reunited last year for O’Brien’s brief spell as the “Tonight Show” host.
Between his two late night stints, Richter starred in a number of failed sitcoms. Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Quintuplets, and Andy Parker P.I. all lasted less than three seasons. Why hasn’t Richter been able to lead his own show? Some people are just better sidekicks, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Richter’s laid-back sense of humor counters Conan’s million-miles-per-minute style nicely. He’s also not a bad test dummy for the nutty host.
Andy Richter’s a great second fiddle and a good man. We can’t wait to see him back drinking bacon vodka.
