This guy’s story may have been filed under the saccharine “heroes and angels” portion of msnbc.com (which would normally make my teeth hurt a little), but what he did was extraordinary… heroic and angelic, one might say.
Wood, a 33 year old designer from Vancouver, was driving home with his pregnant wife when a car coming toward them began swerving recklessly across both lanes. (The driver was later revealed to be taking off her sweater while her friend steered from the passenger seat.) In response, Wood braked hard and swerved to the right, making sure that he would bear the brunt of the crash as the car rammed into them. Wood was killed in the accident but his wife, Erin, and their unborn child was safe.
“All the policeman say that if we had hit the car head-on all of us would be dead,” Wood said of her husband. “At the very last second [Brian] braked really hard and turned right so that he would be put in the path of the SUV and not me and the baby, and that is the only thing that saved us both.”
