Haidar Taleb, a disabled Emirati man began his 200-mile journey across the UAE desert yesterday in a self-designed solar powered wheelchair. The journey is part of his efforts to raise awareness for disability and sustainability issues. (He most recently set the Guinness Book of World Records for driving a wheelchair more than 80 miles during a 14-hour trip from Abu Dhabi to Sharjah.)
I want to send out a message to disabled people that there are no obstructions. Whatever you think about, you can do,” he said. “Give disabled people a chance, and they can perform miracles.
Taleb’s trip is expected to take 11 days and will span all seven Emirates—ending in Abu Dhabi.
