Matt Bellamy: World’s Worst Sports Fan

We’ve already told you how not be a good man at a baseball game, but here’s a lesson on how not to be a good sports fan.

If you don’t know the story, Matt Bellamy wore a Miami Heat jersey to a Cleveland Indians game, only a few weeks after “The King” decided to take his talents to South Beach.

Now there are a few things wrong here, in addition to the salt he dumped into Cleveland’s open wound.

One: he’s wearing Under Armour under a basketball jersey … in the summer. Two: he’s wearing a basketball jersey to a baseball game. And three: it’s a Miami jersey—and he’s in freaking Cleveland. Needless to say, Bellamy won’t be Man of the Day any time soon.

Thankfully, Indians fans berated him all game long until he was escorted from the stadium in the sixth inning. Bellamy made it onto SportsCenter, scored some national interviews, and posted some barely intelligible messages on his Facebook page. And that was that. Or so we thought.

Then, Thursday, Bellamy posted another Facebook message saying that the Heat had invited him down to Florida for an all-expenses-paid night where the team would be honoring him. It looked like another lesson-in-reverse PR from the Heat. If they wanted all of us to despise the franchise, they were doing a great job.

Alas, they’ve redeemed themselves. Late last night a team official announced that they had decided to rescind Bellamy’s invitation:

An invitation was prematurely extended to [Bellamy] prior to the approval process being completed. Once management became aware of this, it was decided that this is not something we wanted to do.

Now we can all go back to detesting the Heat for other reasons, like having a ridiculous amount of talent and a confused superstar. Let’s hope this is the last we ever hear of Matt Bellamy.
