Newark Mayor Cory Booker Saves Woman From Fire

Late last night, as Newark Mayor Cory Booker was returning from a TV interview, he saw smoke coming from the second floor of the building next to his  home.

According to Politico.com,

“I just grabbed her and whipped her out of the bed,” Booker said of a building resident in his recounting of the fire.

Booker was taken to a hospital Thursday night to be treated for smoke inhalation and second-degree burns on his hand. The woman he pulled out of the house was in stable condition and his security guards, who helped other residents get out of the building, were also taken to the hospital.

“I suddenly had the realization that I can’t find this woman.” Booker said. “I look behind me and see the flames and I think “I’m not going to get out of here. Suddenly I was at peace with the fact that I was going to jump out the window.”

Fortunately, Booker was able to locate the woman and they both got to safety. Booker was treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation.

In true heroic fashion, Booker also tweeted thanks to Det. Alex Rodriguez for getting others safely out of the building.

What do you think? Is Cory Booker an exceptionally good man, or is this something most people would do to save another human being?
