Open Thread: What Fall TV Premiere Are You Most Anticipating?

Open Discussion:

Many fantastic shows will be returning this fall including GMP favorites like The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy.

Zap2It.com shows the new Sons of Anarchy poster and tries to discern what it means for the season ahead:

The newly released “Sons of Anarchy” Season 5 poster has Clay (Ron Perlman) singled out as the club now centers around its new king, Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam). SAMCRO’s loyalty is clearly in the hands of Jax as they all stand at the biker equivalent of attention in anticipation of his order.

Entertainment Weekly is giving us a sneak peek into what the October premier of The Walking Dead might have in store, with news on a new cast member. Dallas Roberts recently signed on to play Milton in Season 3 of the zombie thriller, joining two other iconic TWD characters from the graphic novel who are finally making their appearances on the series—Michonne and The Governor:

“Milton is the details guy,” explains exec producer Robert Kirkman. “He’s the guy that works with the Governor, who is monitoring all situations and is trying to help the Governor make sense of this world that they’re living in. He’s not exactly a scientist, but he’s a smart guy that is trying to find out how zombies behave. Watching him do his little experiments is going to be a lot of fun.”

…According to showrunner Glen Mazzara, in Milton we will see an example of someone finding a way to make himself useful, even if he is not necessarily a physically imposing presence. “We were examining, ‘How do people survive in this apocalyptic world, and what can people contribute?’” says Mazzara. “And we didn’t think it was plausible that every single character we meet is an efficient zombie killer. We just didn’t buy that everyone we know would be active and deft enough to kill every walker. We wanted to show how other people survive, and Dallas has come in and helped us establish that character. He just adds a lot of heart and humanity to Woodbury, which further complicates what that is. That is a real town with real people and real survivors. It’s not necessarily a group of bad guys.”

There are also some promising-looking new shows on the roster, including one we’re particularly interested in called Guys With Kids. NBC describes the show: “As three friends discover, it’s not always easy balancing life as a dad and dude.” It’ll be interesting to see how dads are portrayed—whether this will follow the traditional narrative of the bumbling dad, or whether NBC will create a show that truly addresses the fun, fulfilling and crazy life of dad-hood.

What do you think of the idea of Guys With Kids? Will the television portrayal of Michonne in The Walking Dead ever be able to live up to the ferocity and badass-ness of the graphic portrayal of her? And will Jax Teller, our Hamlet from SoA, be able to lead SamCro out of their disastrous spiral?

What other shows are you most anticipating?
