Open Thread: Who Was Your Favorite Muppet?

StatlerandWaldorf

Every kid had a favorite. Who was yours?

On The Muppet Show and Sesame Street, Jim Henson’s studio created an array of the most classic, lovable children’s characters ever, who have supported all kinds of shows, movies, records, books, cartoons, toys, and other spin-offs for generations now. The Muppets were a diverse array of types (except that there were only two women, ever) and as kids, most of us had a favorite.

Who was yours? Did Kermit’s exasperated optimism win you over? Did Gonzo’s mysterious past and constant self-injury tickle your funnybone? Did Grover, or his heroic alter ego Super Grover, make you happy as a kid? Did the Swedish Chef teach you important lessons about never trusting those shifty Scandinavians? (If so, you may have missed the point.)

For myself, my favorites were definitely the two veteran hecklers, Statler and Waldorf, because I have been a crabby old man since I was seven years old.
