Peter Gabriel: Creating the Citizen Journalist (TEDTalks VIDEO)

“Whenever there’s a camera around, a video or film camera, it’s a great deal harder for those in power to bury the story.”

Musician and human rights activist Peter Gabriel shares the story behind his motivation for standing up for human rights with the watchdog group he co-founded in 1992, WITNESS, which distributes digital cameras to “to empower people to document human-rights abuses.”

Gabriel is also the co-founder, along with Sir Richard Branson and Nelson Mandela of The Elders, “an independent group of global leaders working together for peace and human rights.”

Peter Gabriel was also a founding member of the rock group Genesis, and created both WOMAD and the label Real World to promote the music and culture of the world globally.
