According to the Huffington Post,
Musician John Legend has cut the title track for “The House I Live In,” the documentary about the drug war that was released in theaters last year and [had] its broadcast debut Monday night on PBS.
But Legend is just one of numerous celebrities who have started to speak out against the “War On Drugs” the US government has been waging, and losing, for years. As HuffPo reports, “Danny Glover, Brad Pitt and Russell Simmons all also served as executive producers for the film.”
The COO of The Young Turks, Steve Oh, Jimmy Dore, and John Iadarola from TYT University discuss the failed war on drugs, and attempt to answer some of the difficult, but important questions. Questions such as,
Why does the U.S. have 5% of the world’s population but 25% of the world’s prisoners?
Why hasn’t the war on drugs reduced drug use?
Who is profiting off it?

The reality is that there are no people in “prison” or doing time for simply marijuana use and/or possession.
For example, all the kids on my unit are court mandated into drug treatment. Each and every one of them have charges that range from burglary, assault, possession of a fire arm etc. NONE of them were locked up for having marijuana or simple marijuana use. I should note though, failing a drug test would mean they used drugs which may have been in direct violation of their probation.
