Gene Healey has written brilliantly on the cult of the presidency. We get way too emotionally invested in our presidents. They are our employees, not elected royalty. Making politics personal – the vehicle through which we signal our intelligence, virtue, compassion, and general goodness – has not been good for the republic. Instead of arguing about problems, opportunities, and solutions, we’re arguing about salvation. Churches are for salvation, governments are for defense and property rights.
Good article. I absolutely appreciate this site.
Thanks!
