What Does Real Fatherhood Mean to You?

The Good Men Project is looking for your thoughts on what it means to be a dad, as well as awesome photos of what #RealFatherhood looks like.

Editor’s Note: Tomorrow (Saturday) is the deadline for joining the #RealFatherhood campaign! So send your Tweets, stories, thoughts and photos in today!

When you think of dads, it’s easy to picture an outdated model of fatherhood: The breadwinning, emotionally stoic, Ward Cleaver-type of father who came home from work and hid behind his newspaper. If that was ever true, it sure isn’t any more.

Today’s fathers are deeply and emotionally involved in their children’s lives, and the number of dads who choose raising their children as their primary occupation is rapidly increasing. Even fathers who have maintained traditional roles have found more freedom in the title of “Dad” than their fathers before them had. That means more silly play, more tea parties, more discussions of Adventure Time continuity, more awkward questions, more inexplicable stains, and more late-night heart-to-hearts at bedtime.

And so we ask you, what does #RealFatherhood mean to you? We invite you to join a world-wide Twitter conversation about what being a dad means today. Send as many tweets as you want, hashtagged with #RealFatherhood and we’ll collect our favorites for a campaign featuring the real faces and words of fathers.

We’re also in search of awesome, surprising, or unusual photos of #RealFatherhood moments. Tweet them or post them on our Facebook page with the #RealFatherhood tag or email them to us at realfatherhood@gmail.com

If they’re silly-looking or downright embarrassing, well, so is fatherhood, so send away!

A collection of some of the best photos will be featured alongside your awesome tweets in a special feature on The Good Men Project. The Good Life will also feature #RealFatherhood short stories. To submit a Real Fatherhood story, visit The Good Life’s #RealFatherhood call for submissions.

Photos are due by August 25, 2012. The #RealFatherhood campaign lasts forever, of course!
