On Tuesday August 20th, Marie Roker-Jones of Raising Great Men and Dr. Vibe of The Dr. Vibe Show hosted two Google hangouts for the launch of What Kind of an Do You Want to Be to discuss modern masculinity and manhood.
In Part I of the conversation (above), Earl Hipp, author, publisher, trainer, organizational adviser, and community consultant of Man-Making.com; and Joe Brewster, filmmaker, American Promise Film shared their views on what boys and young men need in order to deal with the social pressures and stereotypes of men. Earl and Joe offered insight into what parents, schools and communities can do to help boys as they navigate from boyhood to manhood.
In Part II of the conversation (below), Edmund Adjapong, graduate student at Teachers College, Columbia University pursuing a Masters of Science in Science Education, Beyond the Bricks Project Instructor; Kevin Carty, Political Theory major at Brown University, Editor The Good Men Project; and Karl Rivera, student at Wheaton College, photographer and writer about their personal experiences as young men and who influenced them, how education played a role in their views of manhood and the challenges they face as modern gentlemen.
