Darren Young is the first openly gay WWE Superstar in the history of Pro-Wrestling.

When asked by TMZ is he thought a gay wrestler could be successful in the WWE, Darren Young not only said yes, but made the announcement that he is gay. He said, “Absolutely. Look at me. I’m a WWE Superstar and to be honest with you, right now, I’ll tell you I’m gay and I’m happy. Very happy.”
The disclosure is not part of his onscreen character, but is in fact who he is in “real” life. “Some people might not like it, some people will like it … But I’m here to be happy,” he said. “It’s very important I’m happy with myself.”
This is the first time a WWE wrestler, the epitome of what many see to be masculine, has publicly identified themselves as gay or lesbian and the WWE company is standing behind Young’s decision to come out.
The company released a statement which said, “WWE is proud of Darren Young for being open about his sexuality, and we will continue to support him as a WWE Superstar.”
