A theme that’s been playing in my head for the past year is being willing to try. I’ve opened the door on being willing to try new things and having enough trust to do things differently. I’ve found it important to be willing to try being flexible as a norm, rather than on occasion. And, my guiding light is being willing to try by following my soul’s calling and opening to serving a higher purpose.
If we look deeper into what it means to be willing to try anything, there is an underlying sense of having trust in ourselves and trust in a benevolent Universe. It’s literally a choice you make when you trust yourself enough to take that step, knowing that you will be okay no matter what happens. The willingness to try anything new takes courage and boldness, and it brings in an element of adventure. When you are open, and you move in that direction that you’re being called to, it breathes new life and positive energy into you.
You wouldn’t have a desire unless you also have the ability to achieve it.
You wouldn’t have a desire and be willing to take action toward a dream or goal unless it ultimately holds great meaning for you. Sometimes the full meaning is not apparent from the beginning, but there is a pull towards it signaling you to go forward. Contained within that desire is the ability to achieve it!
Being willing to try is bold and the Universe responds in kind.
Often there is a thin line between being aware of what is important to be willing to try and actually making the choice and doing it. Every day there are numerous choices to make and opportunities to experience if we are willing. When you make the choice to take just one step towards what is calling you, a ripple effect is created that opens doors you could never have imagined. That one single step signals the Universe that you wish to go in that direction, and the Universe responds in kind.
Being willing to try has been so much in my head and heart, that I had to write a song about it! My new EP “Willing To Try”—Chapter 2 contains four tracks including the single “Willing to Try”. It releases on Friday, July 27, and I am so excited to share it with you! Get your copy or stream and listen here.
What Are You Willing To Try…That Thing That’s Been Calling You?
For me, as a musician and songwriter, I became even more aware over the past year that it is more important to have my artform be about the music and overlying themes, rather than having it be about me personally. I’ve recently taken myself out of my music videos and focused on the messages of the songs. I was willing to shift the sense of needing to have personal ownership of the songs I created. For the first time, I co-wrote an entire album, “Willing To Try”, with Jim McGorman (Avril Lavigne, Shakira, Gwen Stefani, Ariana Grande, Goo Goo Dolls). The majority of my previous songs had been written just by me. In surrendering needing to have 100% ownership, I have found great freedom in that decision. I surrounded myself with creative, inspiring people and in our collaboration, we’ve brought out the best in each other and the best in our work. In creating “Willing to Try”, the single and the EP, I began traveling from the east coast to the west coast to work collaboratively. I decided to release “Willing to Try” in three separate Eps, as in three different chapters as in a book, rather than just one album. This was a completely new process for me, and I am grateful that “Willing to Try”—Chapter 1 features three Billboard Hit singles.
I’ve been conscious to take the spotlight off of me and put it on my fans, the Bravehearts. I was willing to step out of my comfort zone into hosting a weekly Facebook Live show, MSB TV, where the Bravehearts and I broach topics that are occurring in our lives and share our challenges and breakthroughs. We talk as a solid community: it’s a time of deep connection and support through various heart to heart conversations. I invite you to join me on Tuesdays at 8:30 pm EST for conversation and live acoustical performances. The album covers for “Willing To Try” Chapter 1 and 2 feature the Braveheart logo, shown below. It is spiritually refreshing to serve a higher purpose rather than have the focus just on me.
Another choice in stepping out of my comfort zone and being willing to try was in becoming a columnist for The Good Men Project. It is always my intention to share something in this column that inspires you, supports you, uplifts you, affirms you. Be willing to try and go for whatever your heart and soul and mind are calling you to be and do! Make this life extraordinary—let all your colors shine.
It is difficult to inspire others to accomplish what you haven’t been willing to try yourself.

Lyrics for “Willing to Try”
It’s getting old
Running after something I can’t hold
Doing everything that I was told
And never asking for
What I really want and really need
It’s getting cold
I can start to sense it in my bones
Acting like a stranger in my home
I know it’s time to leave
Won’t let this feeling get the best of me
Oh, Living in between the lines
Oh, Running in and out of time
Sundown but there’s light in the sky
West bound where the stars collide
Maybe we’ll make it to California
Maybe we’ll lose but I’m willing to try
Blind luck and a matter of time
I’m gonna wake up where a dream never dies
Maybe we’ll make it to California
Maybe we’ll lose but I’m willing to try
Thought I was brave
Paddled out to catch a tidal wave
Only had the nerve to watch it break
And let it pass me by
But I‘ll never know the reasons why
Oh, Living in between the lines
Oh, Running in and out of time
Chorus
Something out of the ordinary
Close my eyes and read the signs
Make this life extraordinary
Let all the colors shine
