Dear Dad,
How’s everything going? I hope you are doing well. In the club I started on campus called POPS Pain of the Prison System, we can write a Father’s Day letter to our Dad. So, I’m writing this letter to you from me. Some of the writing prompts we were given were: What do you miss most about him ? Express to your father your favorite memory with him? Something good or bad that has happened to you recently? Tell your Dad what you can’t wait to do with him once he comes home.
What do I miss the most? I miss the rides on the Harley Davidson, going to school and to the park. Going to your ice cream car, it was clean inside and out, all cream and a pinch of gold, just like the Hip Hop song that came out back then, “Ice Cream Paint Job.” I miss going to my little sister Parys’s favorite fast food restaurant McDonald’s or “McMcDonald’s” as she would say. My favorite memory is flying kites on the beach. Most of all I miss going to the cheese park and beach on the weekend. Being able to having fun and eating Mom’s lunch.
I’ll give you the bad news first, so the good news will make you smile. Something bad that happened recently was in the POPS anthology. The editors messed up most of my writing prompts. Also, I didn’t win Class President of Class of 2017. Now those are the little things that I must overcome and tackle. Now to the good news: the following school year I will be President and Founder of at least four clubs on campus that so far have been excelling (WHICH CLUBS?) I’ve been speaking my dreams into existence thanks to all my mentors and supporters. I’ve received awards for my dedication and leadership in MESA and some other clubs (I don’t understand this next part) Life (ZOE) Club, and this coming Thursday I will be leading a workshop at community build for summer youth employment.
I can’t wait to see you when you come home so we can make up all the time that we have lost. For the past few nights, I’ve been having dreams that you came home, and we were able to do fun outdoor activities like skiing, cooking, going to my track meets and practicing (practicing what?).
Love,
Paradyse

“Here’s the thing about The Good Men Project. We are trying to create big, sweeping, societal changes—–overturn stereotypes, eliminate racism, sexism, homophobia, be a positive force for good for things like education reform and the environment. And we’re also giving individuals the tools they need to make individual change—-with their own relationships, with the way they parent, with their ability to be more conscious, more mindful, and more insightful. For some people, that could get overwhelming. But for those of us here at The Good Men Project, it is not overwhelming. It is simply something we do—–every day. We do it with teamwork, with compassion, with an understanding of systems and how they work, and with shared insights from a diversity of viewpoints.” —– Lisa Hickey, Publisher of The Good Men Project and CEO of Good Men Media Inc.
