The definition of labor is toiling, huge effort and existing day to day without purpose. However, when you are living a life filled with purpose theirs is no drudgery, there is no toiling. There is work, hard work, yes, but when you walk in purpose that work is effortless. Every day is more like the gift that it was always intended to be rather than a countdown of hours and minutes that you want to see pass quickly in order to get to the weekend or your days off or even retirement.
How do you discover your purpose? It’s different for everyone. For me, it’s my relationship with God – my God Assignment.
“How do I get there?” is a very valid question. Some very early in life discover their purpose. It often grows from an obvious skill and they can’t avoid using it, no matter what the obstacles or resistance. These individuals who are walking in purpose know what they were born to do. Think Leonardo da Vinci, Mother Theresa, Pablo Picasso or Michael Jordan. That is not to say that your purpose must be on the magnitude of the individuals mentioned but it must be of the same intensity.
When you have discovered your purpose, to the outside world what you do seems effortless because it is clear what you should be doing in your life. You have few complaints. However, if you have resisted or not discovered what you should be doing in life, your countenance is sour and grim. You are generally unpleasant to be around.
So, if, like many others, you have not discovered your life’s purpose early, there are ways you can reach it to live your life more on purpose and consequently more fully.
1. Examine your skills and talents. What do you naturally gravitate to? How can you turn those skills and talents to living your life on purpose?
2. It is often in the quiet times that our purpose is revealed and validated.
3. Question friends and family. If you are still in school, ask your teachers where they see your strengths.
4. Be open to the input you receive. Act on it.
5. What do you naturally do each day and how does it align with any life visions you have?
Living life on purpose is not without work, but it is drudgery free. You are embracing life instead of wondering when the day will end.
