Are you annoyed by constant night sweating? Do you wake up in the middle of the night drenched all over your body?
Apparently, you are not the only one experiencing this problem. Medically known as sleep hyperhidrosis, night sweating is already a common nuisance experienced by many people.
There are multiple causes of this. One could be the natural metabolic process of your body. In some cases, it could be a symptom of underlying conditions such as infections.
Lucky for you, there are multiple home remedies for night sweats that you can try. If you want to sleep dry and wake up still dry, then you should try these following methods.
Remedy #1: Use Natural Oils
There are various essential oils out there that can help you stop night sweating. One good example of this is lavender oil.
You see, lavender oil is not only a natural stress reliever. It also helps you sleep better by calming your mind and senses. Furthermore, the oil can regulate your hormones, which in turn, can reduce your episodes of night sweats and hot flashes.
You can use the lavender oil by adding a few drops to your diffuser. In this way, the sweet scent of lavender will be scattered in your entire bedroom.
Another essential oil that you can try is clary sage oil. It can help you relax your body and muscles. When your body is still, it will not sweat too much. Use the clary sage oil by applying it directly to your neck and feet.
Here are some other essential oils that can help in preventing night sweats:
- Flaxseed oil
- Primrose oil
- Peppermint oil
- Basil
- Citrus
Remedy #2: Make Your Bedroom Cool
One of the potential causes of night sweating is a humid environment. If your bedroom is not that appropriately ventilated, then there’s a good chance that you will feel hot.
Moreover, you should not also ignore the sleeping amenities that you are using. Some mattresses and pillows don’t have breathable construction. These things will get “hot” eventually since they are not letting air pass through.
If any of these predicaments are indeed the cause to your evening sweats, then it is time to let your bedroom breathe. Install an air conditioner with a thermostat so that you can adjust the temperature to the ideal level.
You should also try using summer blankets because they promote proper air circulation.
Always take note that a cool bedroom will never make you feel sweaty.
Remedy #3: Drink Pomegranate Juice
If the actual cause of your night sweating is imbalanced hormones, you should already drink pomegranate juice regularly. In general, this particular fruit contains a variety of antioxidants–such as ellagitannins and phytoestrogens–that regulates the hormones in the body.
Of course, you should make sure that your pomegranate juice is all-natural. You don’t want to drink something that has been commercially processed. There’s a good chance that some of the essential nutrients of these juices have been lost already.
You can drink the juice two times a day to fully relish its effects.
Remedy #4: Take Black Cohosh Supplements
Hormonal imbalance is pretty standard, especially to women. They are the ones that experience this condition, especially during their menopausal period. Night sweats are among the common symptoms of these imbalances.
There are natural remedies that can help people who are stuck in this predicament. One good natural solution that I know is black cohosh. In the medical world, this is used as an alternative to hormone replacement therapy.
It is noted that black cohosh is rich in phytochemicals that have estrogenic effects. In short, it can become an effective remedy against hot flashes and night sweats.
Since it is a herb, black cohosh is best taken in the form of supplements. The latter is very concentrated; hence, more potent.
Remedy #5: Drink Hot Ginger
Ginger has tons of health benefits. It is used in treating nausea, morning sickness, and muscle pain. It also has anti-inflammatory effects that can work against osteoarthritis.
However, it is quite surprising that only a few people know the favorable effects of ginger in minimizing night sweats. This particular kitchen ingredient is rich in phytoestrogens that ensure the balance of your hormones in your body. In turn, this mitigates night sweating.
Consider this recipe for a hot ginger drink.
Ingredients:
- Grated ginger
- Honey
- Hot water
Procedure:
- In the cup of water, put one two grated gingers.
- Next, let the ginger stay there for approximately ten minutes before you drink it.
- Alternatively, you can add a teaspoon of honey to counter the strong taste of ginger.
There are a lot of exciting things that you must know about gingers. An e-book entitled the “Ginger: Antioxidant Properties, Functions and Medicinal Benefits” written by Janine L. Perry of Nova Science Publishers has a full explanation to the miraculous effect of ginger.
If I were, I would check this book out!
Remedy #6: Drink Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is another helpful herb. Not only it can only make you feel relaxed, but it can also aid you to sleep better.
There are also phytoestrogens and phytonutrients that are present in aloe vera. These are the ones that ease your hormone so that you don’t sweat too much, especially during the night.
Inflammation and infection can also cause night sweats. Fortunately, aloe vera has anti-inflammatory properties that can combat these things.
A cup of aloe vera juice before bedtime can help a person help better.
Wrapping It Up
These are the heaven-sent methods that have positive effects in curbing down night sweats. If you are plagued by excessive sweating while you are sleeping, you should try these natural remedies that I have listed here.
But of course, it is always a sound idea if you identify first the cause of your night sweating. Just like what I have mentioned before, night sweating can only be a symptom of underlying conditions. For instance, sweating in the night can be a sign of tuberculosis.
If that’s the case, you should seek immediate treatment. You have to treat the condition for the symptoms to be eradicated successfully.
That’s it for now. If you have questions or suggestions, feel free to drop them in the comment section below.
