Stress has become like part and parcel of our daily life with everyone experiencing it at one time or another. The causes behind the feelings of stress can be many like increasing work pressure, new job new parenting, or tumultuous love life. Stress can also stem from the fact that you are feeling you have a lot to do but lack time to complete doing it all. Simply put, a person feels stressed if a significant aspect of his/her life just does not go according to plan. Do not let the feeling get to you and take the help of the following five ways to get rid of stress.
1. Practice rational optimism
Stress begins with how you perceive the experiences that you have. You are just harping on your mind if you keep on emphasizing that your life is not going how it is supposed to be. Try counting your blessings, achievements, growth, and progress. Let your perception of life change from worrying about what you don’t have to being reassured about what you do have.
2. Free your mind
Just like you shut down your computer when it starts to act crazy, you need to shut down your mind sometimes too. Start practicing meditation for whichever time period is convenient for you. Meditation relaxes your body, reduces anxiety and high blood pressure and all these combines to help you get rid of stress.
3. Let go of the caffeine addiction
Most people turn to caffeine as their fast charge-up, and there is truly nothing wrong with a little caffeine kick. But drinking cups of coffee to get rid of stress is where you should stop. Try to give up caffeine for a while and assess if you are feeling better. If getting rid of caffeine altogether seems like an impossibility for you, at least minimize the intake. Your stress will go down along with your caffeine intake.
4. The aromatic route to stress-relief
You can give aromatherapy a try to deal with your severe stress conditions. Fragrances like lavender are known to help you deal with stress effectively. Draw a few drops of the oil into the bathtub and light up some incense sticks. You can even try using a diffuser or mix some of the oil into your body lotion. The other simple way would be to dip some cotton balls into the oil and placing those in the room to let the oil evaporate from the cotton balls and spread the fragrance.
5. The release of endorphins through exercising
Endorphins are the happy hormones that are released in the body when you exercise. So, pick up any activity like kickboxing, running or walking and start doing it regularly. Experts believe nothing relieves stress like a good hour of exercising.
