As adults, we understand the benefits that come from taking care of our bodies. Many of us have experienced traumatic injuries and pain that have left us with a sense of deep appreciation for healing modalities, like a chiropractic adjustment or a good massage.
Have you ever thought about taking your kids to get a massage? What about taking them in for a chiropractic adjustment? Or acupuncture?
Kids, especially young teenagers, are subject to the same pain and especially bad posture that leads to problems easily relieved by adding chiropractic, massage therapy, and acupuncture to your family’s health routine. You don’t even need to be in pain to benefit from these treatments, as they can often relieve the emotional stress that everyday life brings.
Chiropractic for kids can prevent serious back injuries.
Teenagers today spend far too much time hunched over their computer, a smartphone, or a tablet, even when walking down the street. They’ve been raised on this technology, always having a screen in front of their face; to them it’s normal. A news report from the Telegraph says that this situation is getting worse, and kids are facing a health “time bomb” of back and neck pain from using their devices so often.
Lorna Taylor, a physiotherapist who helped perform a study on kids receiving treatment for back or neck pain, says the number doubled in just 6 months. The study found that 64% of secondary school kids said they suffered from back pain, but 90% said they never told anyone.
Taylor told the Telegraph, “Modern lifestyles and the increase in technology are having detrimental effects on our children’s musculoskeletal health and, if not addressed in school and at home now, will have far reaching effects for our children, the future working generation, and society.”
Gentle chiropractic care for kids can relieve much of the back and neck pain caused by hunching over electronic devices, and this relief is often accompanied by an improvement in sleep, mood, and a stronger immune system.
Physical and dental exams are important, too.
Providing a variety of options for your family to experience health and wellbeing is important. Each modality offers something the others can’t. It’s just as important to include physical and dental exams as part of your family’s healthcare routine.
Similar to chiropractic, it’s never too soon for your kids to see the dentist. Unfortunately, children as young as three are being subjected to invasive dental procedures due to poor diets full of sugar supported by their parents. Some even have to get all of their teeth pulled thanks to extreme levels of decay.
Massage therapy relieves stress.
If you remember anything about being in school, you probably remember being stressed out from massive homework assignments, or from the daily happenings in your social circles. It’s hard being a kid. There’s peer pressure to deal with as well as the need to make friends and be liked. Massage therapy is one of the best ways to relieve this stress.
Adding regular massage therapy to your family’s healthcare routine can do wonders for everyone, even your little ones. Massage therapists are gentler on kids, of course, so you don’t have to worry about your kindergartener getting bruised from a deep tissue massage.
Touch has been proven to be one of the most important factors in maintaining health, and studies have shown that infants cannot survive (literally) without it. Adults and children alike require human touch to stay emotionally and physically healthy.
Acupuncture promotes great health.
Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of medicine in the world today. As part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture is used by many practitioners on people of all ages to relieve a variety of symptoms. Chronic pain, arthritis, anxiety, and migraines are just several examples of what acupuncture can be used to treat.
When you incorporate multiple modalities into your routine, you can learn what your family prefers and what works best for them. You may find that you love chiropractic and massage, while one of your kids gets the most benefit from chiropractic and acupuncture.
Making holistic healthcare a regular part of your family’s routine can lead to a healthier, happier family life.
