The first thing you can do is exercise. The reason why I say this is because I was diagnosed as a kid with ADD. I took many different medications but I didn’t want to stay on medication all my life because the medication had a laundry list of side effects. I felt angry sometimes, or stressed out, and I felt like I wasn’t getting the zest out of life, I felt like I was sort of a hamster on a wheel. Because of this I knew there was going to be a time where I take no medication whatsoever for ADD. With that being said, I’ve realized how important exercise is in my daily life and the reason why I’m telling you this is because you have to exercise your body just like you do with your brain. So in order to slow our thoughts down we must be active and have vigorous exercise. Try and do it as much as you can at your own pace. You’ll be amazed at how clear headed you will feel.
The second thing is the difference between an espresso and a coffee. Espresso sort of harnesses your brain almost like an ADD pill and it works to focus you without jacking you up. I usually take one in the morning and one in the middle of the day when I sort of hit that lull time.
Another thing I’ve realized is aromatherapy can actually focus us into getting things done. The one I use contains rosemary, peppermint, holy basil, and frankincense. With these together, it can really help me focus getting things done, especially the things I really hate like working on the website or getting organized.
Another thing that really helps when organizing yourself is keeping a list. To me it’s a godsend because personally I cannot just put things on my phone, I have to actually write it down. When a task is complete I simply cross it out. Its pretty cool because when you scratch it out you actually feel good because you feel productive and you can also stop beating yourself up for not doing any work.
