COVID-19 has left us wondering about our future activities since it has forced us to stay inside and practice social distancing. But with the approach of the summer, there is hope for the touristic industry and cities might get a glimpse of their previous lively atmosphere. Let’s see how the summer of 2020 will look like and what we should expect during this period.

Will people travel?
Whether people will travel during the summer of 2020 is highly debatable. Salaries have been, globally, greatly impaired and the wealth of individual households has been diminished. Even if the countries’ borders will open up again during the summer, it is expected that fewer people will indulge in visiting a summer resort.
And those who will decide to travel, they will keep practicing social distancing since large events and group gatherings will not be available yet. In addition, masks, gloves and hand sanitizers will still be needed even during summer, because the virus will have not completely passed.

Touristic businesses.
The summer period has always been very lucrative for touristic businesses. Airlines, hotels, restaurants, and retailers were blooming during the warm season overflowing with tourists from all over the world. For this summer, however, things will probably not be the same.
Most airlines have postponed their flights or canceled them whatsoever until the spread of the virus gets regulated. But this summer we should expect that they will gradually start delivering some leisure and business flights. However, they will still fly with limited passengers and the crew will continue to wear masks and gloves throughout their shift.
Hotels and rentals will open even slower. Many buildings have been used to accommodate vulnerable groups, homeless people or local workers during this pandemic. Until summer this scenery will not change much. But we should expect that some hotels will reopen for individuals, first, afterward, for businessmen and lastly for groups.

Will climate affect the virus?
The COVID-19 cases seem to decrease around the world but until summer the virus’ spread will continue occupying our everyday lives. People will still be afraid of contracting it and summer vacations could be of high risk for vulnerable groups.
Despite the fact that some early studies in China showed that climate doesn’t affect the virus, scientists support that the hot summer weather can, indeed, help against it. So we might see fewer cases and deaths throughout this period.
Nevertheless, the virus will not be completely gone. Scientists predict a second wave for the upcoming fall, which means that we should keep being careful and practicing social distancing. One thing is for certain, masks and hand sanitizers are here to stay for the long term.
