My wife is a doctor of natural medicines. In our home, it is all organic, all herbal, and all healthy. Nothing processed, and no junk food.
I am a devoted lover of frozen pizzas, chocolate chip cookies, and Fruity Pebbles.
You can probably imagine that our two worlds often collide! When it comes to raising our children, I know that her world is much healthier than mine, so I happily follow her lead when it comes to organic foods. Indeed, I just built her three raised beds where she can grow her many herbs that she loves to use. Yet, when it comes to me, I often follow my sweet tooth and indulge far too often on those frozen pizzas, those cookies, and that sweet cereal.
As I grow older, though, I have had the usual health issues that men my age often do. I am rounding my forties, and heading straight to fifty years of age. My body can’t do what it used to do. I seem to grow more fatigued, and am prone to more sicknesses. Perhaps, I do need to listen more when my wife tells me to start eating healthy.
One thing I have listened to from my wife, the doctor, and have taken to heart is that of herbal medicines. To be sure. I have done some research on my own, and recognize that so many Americans fill their bodies with unnecessary medicines; medicines that are, in truth, not good for the body in the long run. Yes, I have turned to herbal medicines and natural home remedies.
There are a number of benefits for using natural home remedies, not just for men, but for everyone. To begin with, herbal medicines and natural home remedies are generally far less expensive than drugs manufactured by large pharmaceutical companies. Natural remedies are cheaper to produce. In fact, so many people do just what my wife and I do. Often times, we simply walk out our kitchen door to those three raised beds I built and find many of the natural remedies we need. As natural home remedies require herbs, vegetables, fruits, and spices, people living in both rural and urban areas can grow these, themselves. If space is not available to grow them, medicinal plants, fruits, vegetables, and spices can be easily located in one’s neighborhood or supermarket. Perhaps for me, the greatest benefit is that there are far less side effects when taking herbal medicines and natural remedies.
The next time I have a sore throat, a runny nose, or even a headache, I am going to turn to my wife, and ask her what herb, what spice, and what natural remedy I need to take. And maybe, I will just cut down on those chocolate cookies, as well.
