There are two ways to age, everyone chooses one of these in their youth. One, you can choose to extend your youth and adopt a lifestyle which supports it, or two you can let go of this worry completely and let nature do the work.
But, the amazing people who enjoy celebrity status among us, have been found to follow certain life habits which set them apart. No doubt, they age gracefully. Here are seven most endorsed and simple ways to maintain your vitality of mind and the body with age.
Start A Morning Ritual
We start with the best time of your day, yes, it’s the good morning. How you wake up influences your whole day. Some of the greatest CEOs of today’s world are famous for their ‘first one to get up in the morning’ ritual. I’m talking about the likes of GE CEO Jeff Immelt, Apple’s Tim Cook, and Virgin’s Richard Branson. They rise early enough to get a space for their thought before anyone else who can distract them.
For those of you who have already tried this, the question may be, “what do I do once I’m up so early?”
The answer is, include the rest of the activities below…
Once again, a habit from the kitty of the most successful and famous people. The importance of exercise can never be overemphasized. The reason is more scientific; it is the time when your testosterone levels are high.
Exercising in the morning helps your body and mind through the day in staying focused and enjoying greater vitality.
A good breakfast after your morning ritual, before you start your day, is a great energy booster. A diet high in protein and a good mix of carbs is a great to kickstart your day. For the unique formula for your body, consult your dietician.
Your morning exercise will take care of slight imbalances in your diet. But, don’t skip the breakfast, it is the most important meal of your day. Your body has already been on a self-induced fast for about 8 to 10 hours, and it needs some carbs and protein to revitalize.
Get Hooked on a Great Habit
You need to develop some great habits to include in your morning itinerary. Some of those habits adopted by the most successful people around the world are:
- Reading a book
- Working on a Passion, i.e. music, painting, art, cooking, etc.
- Connecting to friends on e-mail, social media, etc.
- Connecting to the world; i.e. read newspaper
Elon Musk is famous for his extremely sticky reading habit since his school days. Meditation and Yoga are the morning habits celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Madonna swear by. Of course, I don’t need to describe how gracefully they have aged.
Moderation is The Key
It might sound pretty simple, yet we have the obesity epidemic in the western part of the world. One of the causes of obesity is impulsive eating. However, impulsivity anywhere can be dangerous.
Diet, decisions at work, with family, or anywhere else, you would like to be wiser more thoughtful and considerate person. Key to achieving all that is the moderation in everything.
Balance your exercise, heavy exercise like a marathon running is good occasionally, but doing it frequently can hasten aging. Balance your diet, and everything else you feel impacts your life, including work-life balance.
Embrace Change and Stay Positive
Today’s world is more active and more volatile than it ever was, and change is the new normal. The key to thriving in such environment is internal flexibility and positivity. Those who resist change find it more stressful and thus, end up aging faster.
On the other hand, you will find the most cheerful people are those who welcomed change and were open to new ideas. They see the opportunity to thrive in every change and don’t get bogged down by it. Most of these people are eventually the ones bringing the change.
And finally, at the end of the day, you need to focus on sleeping well. Sleep is as important as any of the above rituals. A good night’s sleep rejuvenates your mind and relaxes it for the day tomorrow.
Fortunately, if you have started the first activity, this will come automatically. If not, here’s few tips to get your brain ready for sleep at night:
- Read a book
- Stay away from electronic devices like laptop, TV, or cell phone
- Have light dinner and at least half an hour before going to bed
With these grow wiser and younger with age. Happy Aging!
