Jhene Aiko, "In Love We Trust"
Jhene seems to be an artist that will be able to sit in a pocket all her own for as many albums as she has the energy to make. Her smooth vocals over rhythmically heavy tracks styling reminds us of Amerie. There are other similarities but you can discover those on your own if you don't already know what they are. Jhene's music is a truly singular experience though. We love the contrast of soft vocals over hard beats. It's a lovely tension that Jhene has thoroughly mastered.
Yelawolf, "Hard White" Remix feat. T.I. + Slaughterhouse
Oh. My. Wow! Did you know that there's a Hip-Hop archive at Harvard University? No? Well, there is. This song should be proffered to the archives curator immediately. Slim Shady's signees, Slaughterhouse, serve up a superb display of superior skill alongside Yelawolf and T.I. Too much alliteration? Sorry. See what we did there? Ahem. T.I. kicks the track off and while he's very very good, everyone else is other worldly. Everything after T.I. is a skill gauntlet. Brace yourself.
Ryshon Jones, "Humble + Dedicated"
Humble and dedicated are two words that should define every man. We're very happy that Ryshon recognizes that and is daring enough to articulate it in song. This track knocks something ferocious! Ryshon puts on for Philadelphia and reminds us that PA artists are still holding their corner of Hip-Hop down. We'd love to hear this song performed with a live band. We're talking backing vocals, horn section and all. The energy would greatly ramped up by live musicians. We'll cross our fingers and hope it happens at a venue we can drive to in less than an hour.
