State Property, "666"
Don't let the "Mark of the Beast" keep you from listening to this track. It has nothing to do with devil worship, the Illuminati or sacrificing animals. A few rappers may be verbally slain though. The SP boys go in on this one like a S.W.A.T. team. Their special weapons being rhymes and tactics being verbal onslaught. This State Property seems to be better than the old State Property. The only one missing from the bunch is Peedi Crakk. We assume it has to do with personal differences. Either way, this track is awesome!
Yuna, "Coffee"
Smooth it out now. Malaysian songbird Yuna layers a vocal over this Fender Rhodes that feels like a lullaby. Her voice is so sweet and soft that you can't help but be entranced by her sound. Minimal structure plus complicated melody equals a maximum sonic experience. We played this one on repeat for quite a while.
Julian Malone, "October 20th"
If we had an art gallery that had audio installations, we'd feature this song there. It's that honest type of music that we love here at Komplicated.com. Julian is plain on this song and that's a wonderful thing. It's as much a poetic entry in a personal diary as it is a rap song. We really hope that a music video surfaces for this song. We have the feeling that with the right director and treatment it would be epic. Quietly epic.
CarlisleVon, "Ambulance"
Holy Hip hop, Batman! This song smacks us in the face and we're OK with that. It's loud and it's frantic. It sounds like a riot! Ambulance is the perfect title as you may spontaneously start bleeding just from listening to this song. We strongly recommend you prepare yourself for 2 minutes and 17 seconds of mayhem. We hadn't heard of CarlisleVon prior to this release catching our ears. We're well aware now. You should be too.
Wale feat. Big Sean, "Slight Work"
Ratchet America has a new anthem! Let the club say, "Amen!" We'll bet you a buffalo head nickel that you can't keep all your body parts still while you listen to this track. It's playful, energetic and fun and Wale works extremely well with Big Sean. They both deliver some clever wordplay that made us crack a smile at several points. DC clubs will definitely be on fire with this one!
