Thank you for putting into words that there actually is a conflict between security/safety and surprise(diversity/alternation?), and not the easy one-way street that some writers on here are trying to have you believe.
Ms. Perel’s , Mating in Captivity is a must read. I am currently rereading it. Anybody interested in understanding relationships and feeding them with tools that allow for a steady flow of passion should read her work.

Thank you Dr. Esther That line about turning yourself off, I honestly never thought that was possible but it made me come to a horrible epiphany that I did exactly that. While I’m not a holocaust survivor, some problems in my recent and not so recent past as well as the demonization of male sexuality (mentioned in another article) have made me uncomfortable with male sexuality and relationships to the point where I could only think about it in terms of academia or humour. Now that I am aware of this, I can re-evaluate my beliefs surrounding sex and relationships… Read more »
