Andy Roddick Cries Over Foot Fault, Loses

Last night at Flushing Meadows, Andy Roddick got into a silly argument with a lineswoman about which of his feet was responsible for a foot fault. She said it was his right foot, which he informed her was “impossible.”

He never moves his right foot, he told her. He was right about that (his left foot was the culprit), although it was one of those arguments that doesn’t really get you anywhere—and that only served as a distraction from the tennis match he was losing.

Roddick, who never seems to quite play up to expectations when we’re watching, bowed out in the second round of the U.S. Open last night, losing in four sets to 44th-ranked Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia. But don’t feel too bad for Roddick. He’s still America’s best tennis player, and he’s still married to model Brooklyn Decker, a woman he first encountered while flipping through a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. Not the worst way to meet your wife.

(Speaking of foot faults, does John McEnroe not know what a foot fault is? Check out the video.)
