SeaCaptainDate.com Is Exactly What It Sounds Like

We’ve talked about the weird (and often specific) world of online dating before. It’s a realm that caters to anyone from Mac lovers to video-game lovers to polyamorists. We even reported on the most successful online pick-up line. (Hint: it’s all in the lips.)

But this has gone to a whole new level.

SeaCaptainDate.com is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a dating site for sea captains “to connect with men and women who share a love of the ocean. With thousands of Captains already online, SeaCaptainDate.com is the destination for romance on the seven seas!”

It’s easy to laugh at the concept or even question whether the whole thing’s real. The site’s featured video (above) tells the story of Caleb, a lonely sea captain who “Googled the Internet” to find the love of his life (tacogirl).

But after browsing through the bountifully bearded profiles, it’s evident that this is just another community for a hyper-specific interest group—who, just like the rest of us, seek human connection.
