Melissa Harris-Perry says that we need a more collectivist approach to raising children. Do you agree or disagree?
What do you all think of this? Is this, as some claim, a promotional for thinly-veiled Marxism? Is she simply saying that we need to explore some new ways to raise children and invest more money in doing so?
Let me know what you think in the comments.
If you’ve got a very strong feeling about it, let me know at [email protected]

Cowardly dog, would you please read my article about my first year of marriage? and let me know what you think?
Where do I find it?
Under “Marriage” The First Year was Hell…..
I found it and commented. Excellent article. Thank you for it. It was a nice comment, so hopefully it doesn’t get deleted.
LOL, need you to comment atthe article site .. you’ll know why soon after.
I did comment at the article. It is the last comment in the string. You have my respect and admiration for sticking to your commitment as does your wife.
Thank you Tom.
Why was “courage the cowardly dog” comment deleted?
As well as his request to know why deleted as well?
what freaks people out about this promo is how she’s speaking with an authority no one has granted her.
We need to remember that in theses debates of Capitalism vs. Marxism, or freedom vs collectivism & whatnot is that humanity lives at the balance between communal responsibilities and individual freedom, not at the far extremes.
I’m trying not to feel triggered by this as someone who’s childfree by choice, but it’s difficult. At the risk of making it an adversarial, either/or issue: I’ll give more than I do already to “our children” if I felt more confident that there were safeguards to insure more responsible parenting and/or more responsible reproductive options. Funny how “it takes a village” to raise a child, but the village gets no input otherwise. When are these people going to open their eyes and see that the problem is simple. The breakdown of the family has contributed to the problems we have today. Their solution is to let the community do the job of moms and dads? Are you kidding… Read more »
I don’t have a problem with commending people to be nice to other people’s kids, to teach them this or that if the occasion arises, and to be good examples.
The problem is when the collective is the government which is going to be unaccountable.
Which do you think M H-P is promoting?
If the first, why bother? Everybody already knows it.
