…but it’s my little slice of heaven and I’m gonna roll with it.
I don’t know a damn thing about branding. I know I haven’t properly branded this site and if I did know how, I’m sure it would be more successful. Don’t get me wrong, I get good traffic, but there are a decent amount of people who Google things like “sex with dad” and other assorted variations of the words. I find that the majority of the sickos are in Europe (especially France and Greece), Indonesia, India, Iran, Malaysia, Algeria, Alabama, Arkansas and Quebec.
With the knowledge that I know diddly squat about branding, I did somehow realize that my professional site was lacking in a big way. For several years I used ReedWriting.net but for some reason I was never completely down with that. I grabbed the URL BaldWriterDude.com and thought that might be a good way to go. Until I decided to stop shaving my head and let a little fuzz grow.
I racked my brain for weeks trying to come up with something hip and cool, yet still professional. I write, but I’ve also done radio and wouldn’t mind doing it again if the right opportunity ever rose. I needed something that popped but that didn’t completely limit me if I ever ventured into other forms of media.
One day, completely out of the blue, it hit me. It wasn’t as dramatic as Isaac Newton taking a nap under an apple tree and getting bonked on the melon, but it was a personal epiphany. My epiphanies are few and far between so I decided I had to roll with it.
With this new idea in my brain I quickly grabbed my phone and launched the GoDaddy app. Typing in the desired URL I found that it was actually available. I decided not to jump the gun and let it marinate for a couple of days before deciding that my idea truly was the shiz.
After an exhaustive 15 minute search I found the template I wanted to use, churned out a few pages, moved my fiction posts to their new home and did some general cleanup. I am now proud to invite you all to my new professional site, www.DaddioMedia.com.
Why Daddio Media? Why not? It fits who I am and it sounds kind of cool. There you will find fiction both old and new as well as any news on the book or any upcoming writing gigs I may have. It’s a place for editors to check me out and a place where I can hone my fiction skills.
I took a long break from my writing group so that I could concentrate on the book, but I’m committed to once again participate in the writing prompts at Write On Edge, beginning with this week’s 300 word piece which has to include a certain Ghandi quote. If anyone from the group is reading this, you’ve been warned of my imminent return.
As I said at the beginning, I have no freakin clue how to properly brand this and brand myself (and don’t have the scratch to pay someone to help me learn) but at least I now have a brand and site that I’m proud of.
I invite you to cruise over there and give it a quick once over. If you enjoy reading fiction, please subscribe and feel free to hit the Twitter button and follow @DaddioMedia. Feel free to share any feedback you may have, but let’s please keep it within the realm of good taste. That was a Slapshot reference, in case you care. The site isn’t anything amazing or earth shattering, but it’s my little slice of heaven and I’m gonna roll with it.
