My strategy for surviving Trump’s America these days is finding solidarity with others through listening. Below are reactions to Trump’s latest executive action from six immigrants (first and second generation) living in America today.
I think it’s misguided and will prove to be ineffective. At best. He is going to upset everyone in those countries. –Gavin, Jamaican by birth.

It shouldn’t come as a shock. He had been screaming this all the way during his campaign. It’s just very unfortunate that his six grade mind won’t be able to fully understand what he has just done and it’s impact. –Princewell, Nigerian by birth.

It’s horrendous. It’s despicable. It’s America. –Elom, Togolese by birth.

The ban has made me feel a sense of anger, fear, but also mobilization. These last ten days have begun to peel back the facade we lived in America that racism and Islamophobia were in the imaginations of overly-sensitive minorities; there is no more denying it. As an undocumented woman, I am in solidarity and action with my Muslim brothers and sisters because an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. –Kareli, Mexican by birth.

I am shocked that a large part of our country and the Republican Party is refusing to let individuals in due to where they come from. The fact that they are willing to do this means that they have no humanity for individuals who are trying to overcome some very difficult circumstances or simply want to get back home. This is a racially profiled attack on a group of people and if it doesn’t stop people of color will have no choice but to unite and fight back. –Alejandro, Chilean by birth.
